Is there any real difference between the 'AIR' version and the 'HELI' version? I meant to get the Heli and got the Air. Anyone got a close up picture of the labels on the top switches on the DX7 Heli version? It looks like those labels (and the little airplane vs the little heli on the front lower right) are the only physical differences.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, teh Flight Mode switch and Throttle Hold switches are on opposite sides. The standard for helis is TH on the right, Flight Mode (Idle Up) on the left.
Also the Air comes with a throttle ratchet (not a huge thing to change) and the programming defaults to airplane.
I woudl return it and get the heli version. Otherwise you will elarn things backwards, and if anyone else ever flies your heli, they will have trouble with the reveresed switches.

Thanks Terry.
Yeah I think return it is the right move. I can even dumb thumb an online shopping cart. :arggg:

If I'm not mistaken the 3 position switch on the A version is on the face not on the top. Ironically I bought a used plank and it came with a DX7 and it was the helicopter version, I was tickled because I wanted one for my mini's anyways.
Serious 3d plankers like the heli ratchet throttle feel better anyways.

I sent it back. Fast turn around at Esprit (http://www.espritmodel.com) (BTW these guys sell DX7 without servos or receivers). Swapping for the Heli version. When it gets here I'll do some close up pix and post 'em for reference, i.e., exactly what is where. Thanks guys.

You sure its the airplane version? :)
Airplane version has the gear switch on the top left (two position), the front second in from the left is the Flap switch 3( position).
Heli the gear switch (two position) is where the airplane flap switch is, and the top side left switch is flight mode (3 position).

I have to agree with Pinecone.
I use the Air version and the switches are laid out like he said.

As an airplane instructor I get more than my fair share of playing with different radios.
Terry its easier to hover a plank without the clicks for the same reason we would remove them, I was awful glad to see it was a heli radio.

I know, that's why I said hovering is hovering. :)

It seems the DX7 air and heli are closer to simlar than other radios. On others, the air has the two switches swapped side to side.

Am trying to set up my TREX450 with the DX7 Air version.....have viewed the videos etc and still cannot get the S1 & S2 to work properly. In normal, Gyro 401 initializes and light stays on. Flip the FM switch to S1 and light starts flashing - reverts to non heading hold.
Not a gyro problem as it works as it is supposed to with my old JR R790 reciever/7202.
It seems like I am not activating the S1 and S2 modes.
Any ideas, suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

A double flash is a rudder input. It means your trims are different in the differnt flight modes, zero them all out and reboot the gyro and check it.
Single flash means its loosing its signal on that line.
Light out means its in rate mode.
