Hey guys any tips on flying in reverse. I keep getting the tail and left-right cyclic mixed up. I'm practising on the sim, but I last a few secs/mins then I crash... Please help, thanks guys!

Just do everything backwards! ... LOL
Keep trying on the sim....it will come to you!
and may the force be with you.

I good exercise that helped me a lot is take the rudder trim and crank it all the way over to one side so you are in a constant piro then try and maintain your hover and general position with just the cyclic

I find rudder trim a little slow, but I use left rudder about half way (stick) and then do a piro hover, great fun and I can do it in real life.
Does it help with reverse flight though?
Thanks!

Flying tail first toward your self is easy. We all do this while learning. Then flying sideways in front of yourself side-in tail-first is harder. Then obviously once you can hover nose-in, you have to see how to get it to move backward while nose-in. Once you get all those you can start doing backward circuits and figure-8s like I love doing. Start slow! It will come.

More Sim time. It will "click" when your brain is ready for it to click. If you get frustrated, stop and go back to something you can do without thinking about it for a while, then work on it again. Sometimes when I get stuck on a maneauver I need to take a break for a week or so and then try it again. Often after the break it comes easier.

Thanks for the help, I think you've got it there Fog, just gotta keep trying. I can do nose in in real life now, high up mind you :). Done a circle today!
I think I'll practise more on nose in in real life first, and then work on backwards flight in sim.
Thanks again!

About practicing on the sim... Is RealFlight 3.5 as pitchy as I think it is in backward flight? I'm not great flying in reverse but it seems the sim is working against me.

what heli do you use? I typically fly a slightly modified dominion 3d 90. I reduced it's weight and added a little more power to make it fly more like my 600. The transition from this practice machine to the real thing is usually very easy...

do u mean nose-in when u say reverse. if u do, what help me was to do hover training and tell myself to move the sick the same way he heli moves. if it starts drifting left i would put in left on the stick. It made it a little easier haveing somesort of method mentaly when flying. Slowly you stop thinking about it in that way and just fly.

No... Sorry for the confusion. I'm OK with nose in both upright and inverted.
Right now I'm working hard on backward flight. Unfortunately with 40+ years of modeling and watching model move forward and ONLY forward, I seem to be working harder making the transition than I'd hoped. It almost feels like my past experience is a hindrance rather than an asset.
