Unfortunately I didn't take time to do construction pix ,,, in to big of hurry to smell that JP ,,, here are a couple pix of it going on the test bed so as to check everything out before it goes in the heli.

Yep ,, I am going to be hooking up the plumbing and trying to get some turbine oil ,, I know you can use the marine stuff ,,,but that just wouldn't be right . :glasses2:

Any tips you can email me on this would really be greatly appreciated... I know that I probably should wait until you travel to Bergens ,,but I know I will understand it better if I try it on my own first ,,, besides I would explode by then :badair: You can straigthen me out when you get here if I can't get it up and runing and I am sure I will be able to understand more of what you are talking about after beating my head against the wall a few times . :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :arggg: :dontknow :bomb:

Larry, just mix the fuel ( I use 3% per gallon) and follow the instructions and she will fire right up. You should not have any problems. If you do I am a phone call away.

I didnt relize that bergan was using a freewheeling turbine or a power turbine to turn the main gear box..thats what I have been waiting for..I think its time to investigate this machine more..Are they 3D capable ???

Yes the Bergen will 3D!! The weight of the prototype came out at 15lbs 6oz, I have not gotten to wild with it to date but can tell you that it will do whatever your nerves can handle. It flys like an extremely overpowered gasser. I did the conversion using the proven gasser EB mechanics, for those of you who have flown 3d with the EB you know what I am saying. The turbine flys with alot of autority and is very responsive. The power is amazing. I found at first that the cost did factor in when flying it but after a few flights I became comfortable enough to let it go.

well...I just checked with the people that own that Big Brown Truck that stops at my house every once in a while...and they will be stopping at my house today with a big surprise for me... :D

Can't wait! In a couple weeks I will have my 2nd Wren 2-stage turbine flying! this one I think will prove to be a heck of a lot more spirited than my Zealous! The Zealous flys great but the mechs and Gearbox are made for scale applications (which they will be going into the big Long Ranger fuse right after IRCHA) and not aerobatics...so I can't wait to get the Bergen Turbine in the air...I have been chomping at the bit to fly a turbine around inverted! :D

Gary wouldn't let me do it to his turbine the last time I got a chance to fly it at the Lake George, UT event! :? Well...hell...I don't blame him...if the shoe had been on the other foot I would have not let him either! :smokin: It was close though...Troy "no balls'ed" me when Gary walked away for a couple of seconds when I was still flying it...good thing I don't succumb to peer pressure very often!

Gary: My only questions are will the Baileys gearbox take the beating; and will it withstand the temps from the gas generator? Im sure Crashes are very expensive due to the cost of gas generator(basic engine) which I would think would require a teardown with at least the ceramic Bearings replaced... Really I think that this is the way our hobby is headed.. I think in the future almost everyone will own a turbine... I want one BAD...

Dean...I know your question was to Gary but let me interject here if I may...Wren and Bailey's have been testing and flying this system since around 1999...they have a lot of data collected over the years...I really feel the system is "up to it".

I have been flying a Wren 2 stage for almost a year now (have a little over 25hrs on the system), The gear box on my Zealous is a "dry-sump" type and I have a oil pump pumping a small trickle of oil through the gearbox and draining back to a 6oz reservoir. After a 15 minute flight the oil in the reservoir is warm...but not anything I could call hot...I don't think heat from the exhaust or convecting through from the shaft tunnel is going to have any effect on the Bailey's or Wren Gearboxes...

The production Bergen Turbines are coming with Wren Gearboxes...I imagine it was just easier for Larry and Chris to "one-source" the entire GasGen/Secondary/Gearbox rather than piece part it from a couple of different UK manufacturers...I don't think there is any "quality" difference between the Bailey's gearbox and the Wren Gearbox....

I think you will be pleased with the quality of craftsmanship in the system...Wren seems to have there act together...great product and even better customer support! Sara (Wren spokesperson) and I talk quite a bit and Wren is very happy to be partnered up with Bergen RC on this project as she feels they are very similar in their business philosophy and ethics…

Thanks Greg... I have be watching from afar at Wren to see how they pan out...WREN as I understand it MFG's all of the turbine's for all other companys. They mold/ Machine /balance them and then NDI test them for cracks and then ship out the turbines to other companys.. Not bad... I didnt know that they were producing their own free wheeling gearbox..if its anything like their engines it will be a great product.. and to top that I have never heard anyone say anything bad about Bergen...So in the long run I think this is one product that is just gonna take charge of the hobby market...Im a Jet engine Mech by trade and have been for over 30 years so I do have alot of turbine Knowlege... Thats why I have been waitting. I just wasnt convinced..What head speed are you running. I did watch your vid that is posted here and she looks sweet.

Yeah...i had heard that Wren makes most of the other companies Turbine and Compressor wheels...

I am running about 1350 head speed with the MAH 950's...the Zealous has a "Hiller" only head and if I slow the blades under 1300 I start getting a "Hiller Wobble" in the heli...

I used the Bailey's box because it was available at the time, it runs flawlessly and can say as I have been putting alot of time on the system latley it runs alot cooler than I had expected. Greg is right, Bergen found it eqasier to deal with one source for the complete drivetrain. The Wren gearbox will give you great service as well. Also you will find that Sara and the people at Wren are about the best people you can deal with for service and support, combine this with the Bergen family and you are supported with great cuctomer service from both ends.
On the prototype the headspeed is most comfortable around 1450 and beleive me at 1450 it is quick with more power than you need. I have run the head as high as 1850 when doing the R&d and will tell you it is scary power.
By the way Greg you need to crank it up just once to get the thrill!!! I am glad yours is on the way.

Have not been on the puter all week long and wouldn't be now ,,but I have come to an almost stop ,as I am waiting now for servo's, batteries, regs, and main & tail blades and flybar paddles......

Can you say SMILE FROM ONE EAR TO THE OTHER ,,, and they are far apart and big ones too. :D :D :D    :glasses: :glasses: :glasses2: :glasses2:
