what would you think of a 3000 mah Ion battery for your 12fg?

that would be great but futaba is saying it will screw up the tx?

Tell me how a 7.4 volt battery is going to screw up a radio that runs on 7.2 volts.

Because it is 8.4 volts full charged? :)

Where did you see that Futaba said it would screw up the transmitter?
7.2 volt nimh pack is fully charged around 8.4 volts
2S Lithium cells are going to be 7.4 volts, maybe 8.6 volts maxed when fully charge. I seriously doubt 2/10th of a volt is going to screw up the transmitter.
I have not seen a 12FG. But if it is similar to the 12Z and 14MZ. It does not even have a voltmeter to read the voltage of the battery. All it has is a display that tells how much battery capacity is left with a precentage number.

I have the 12FG & the battery voltage is displayed on the screen. Mine is around 8.5 when just coming off charge. I cannot see where 8.6 is going to do any harm. I'll check it out further just to make sure.

I think it was Ray Stacy that said he talked to hooby services and they told him NOT to use a lipo. There is a voltage display on the 12fg. It is up in the right hand corner of the screen. I would love to use a lipo in mine but I want to make sure there is no real risk to the TX. I have used lipo in my dx-7 and stylus before with no problems.

Well I am a Futaba Team pilot. Same as Ralph and Ray. I have been a team pilot for 11 years. Hobbico is going to tell you to use just Futaba products. They are not going to be liable for telling you aftermarket products can be used.
I used a Lithium Ion battery in my 9Z for several years. No problems. The nicad that came with the radio showed 11.2 volts when fully charged. The Li-Ion was 12.6 fully charged. IN fact the stop fly voltage with the Li_ion was 10.8 volts. So the Li-Ion was at a higher voltage all the time from what the Nicad would have been.
The transmitter will not care if the battery is nimh or Li-Po or Li-ion. The voltage is going to be the same between the stock battery and the battery Rodney is talking about.

David,
This was my post
I wanted to install a 2S LiPo in my 12FG.
I checked with the Service Center, and they said "DO NOT, as it will create problems in the radio. There's something in the system in it that's affected by it."
They said that it will void any warranty issues with it as well.
Now I don't know exactly what that means but OK.
Take it for what its worth.
Note that I said "Take it for what its worth"

Still working with battery folks to see what can be done about the 12Z and 14MZ.
I can get them up to 2800mah but I dont think that is really enough to try and make them as thats only a
4 or 6 or 800 mah gain. not really worth the money its going to take to get them going. I am still hoping to get it up to 3000 to 3800 for the 12z and 14mz.
But for now the 3000's for the 12fg will be available this week.

Futaba's (or Hobby Services) is probably afraid someone will hook up a 3S lypo instead of the 2s Rodney is making, There is no possible way an 8.4V (fully topped off 2s Lypo) could harm anything designed for a 6s NiMH.
Rodney... Get back to work on the 12z thing

No matter how many tons of pressure I put on them in my press, Futaba jsut didnt give enough room for more than 2800 mah on the 12z and 14mz. But will keep at it until I get big enough press.

I'd take the one you have for the 14mz as it is now ;)

I wonder ...if a Lipo was run down too low, puffed up and caught fire damaging the transmitter , could a consumer think it would be covered under their warranty ?
some consumers might claim the transmitter had a design flaw to allow a Lipo to over discharge.
maybe this may be the reason behind it all.

I will be ordering one of your 12fg packs tonight. The stock battery drains too quick.

Just FYI, I sent an email to Duralite and they have a battery for this radio currently in the testing phase.
I definitely need something other than the stock battery... gonna wait to see what Duralite offers. They couldn't provide specifics but said it is coming soon.

I used a 2 cell lipo pack in my 12FG. Fits nice and seems to be working fine.
