View Full Version : Blade CX2 and Phoenix or Just a Radio & Phoenix For a Newbie?

I'm currently looking for my first heli and based on a lot of the information I've found online, I'm considering going the coaxial route with the Blade CX2 to help learn orientation. etc. I've definitely decided that Phoenix is the sim I'd like to go with. So one of my issues is that I'm not sure if the coaxial route really is the best way if I'm also going to spend a lot of time in the sim.

My second issue is with the CX2 radio. At first I was worried about using it with Phoenix, but an e-mail to them assures me that it will work with the supplied JR connector. I asked about 6ch CP flight, since the CX2 radio is only 5ch, and they said that "...you will have to assign idle-up and throttle hold to keyboard commands for 3D flying." Since I'm brand new to this, I really don't know what that means in terms of actual flying. Is that something that would make it very hard to learn CP flying in the sim, or would it only be an issue for 3D flying? What would be the actual practical limitations for the sim with only 5ch? One of the main things I wanted out of a first heli was the ability to use the radio with the sim and to use the sim to eventually learn to fly a CP heli, so that's a primary concern for me. If the 5ch radio would be more of a hindrance, that I may consider getting a 6ch radio to go with Phoenix. I'm not sure what would be a good radio to go with if I just went the sim and radio route.

Any thoughts and suggestions as to how best to proceed would be appreciated.

It will work fine. On the sim I never use Normal, so I just run Idle Up curves. And I don't (but I shuld) use TH other than for hovering autos.

But if you are on a tight budget, get the CX2 and Phoenix. When you get some more moeny, buy a DX7 and you can fly both the CX2 and the sim with that. Then youa re set up buy your first real heli. :)

Nice step by step program.

I agree with everything the above posters have said. I went that route (only without the sim when flying my CX2) and have never regretted it.

Agree too with above comment. I use other co-ax model in real (Lama v3-with Xtreme modification; i love all mod thing), and use FMS sim for free,

Secondly use fixed pitch heli with reflex sim, and now with CP heli, i try G3.5, and now, i need phoenix.

Step by step heli learning with support from your local stuff (friends w forums, trainers, HS for parts/mod, etc).

If you want research more, you can see some sim comparison here, http://www.emptynestgames.com/rc_sim_chart.html

Cheers.

Now how the hell did that happen!!
I agree though, just spent Sunday setting up a CX for my brother-in-law and nephew and besides the battery's not lasting long enough or taking to long to charge, depends on how you look at that, It was a blast. As for Phoenix, you'll love it!
