Just to clarify; when you push the select button while flying, the transmitter acts as a homing device. When the model aproaches 5 feet in range; the tx explodes.

This only applies when flying in Hong Kong.

From personal experiance.
I've been shot with a 9MM round in the left leg (Military Gig). 8 months later I was hit in the right leg by a TREX600 with 620's
You can bet your (SHIFT "244") that the Heli hurts a lot more and for a longer recovery time,
I was really lucky with the 620's. The plastic grips came apart 40 feet away. the debris was max 50 feet away. The blade strike to my right leg was a flat smack verses a slice. I can say without a doubt, Safety is now 40 + feet away on take off, Landing safety is 40 + feet away also. And All my Helis are running metal grips now.
Another thing I can also say. Flying Helis is not for someone without medical insurance.
I think after it's all done, the bill for the Doc, was somewhere around $4,500.00
and I still have a constant reminder that their is no such thing as toys when their spinning two + Axes @ 1,200 + RPMs

Did you see the people run away with an airplane when video'd...the hurried packing of heli's when cameras showed up....these people KNOW they are breaking the law.

The whole culture of safety violations start with antics like the flying of the CX in the LHS. We get complacent with safety, and keep pushing until something bad happens.

Anyone know what happened? As in: was it fatal / survivable? My wife (and her family) is originally from Hong Kong and her mother, my mother-in-law, read this story in a Chinese news paper in Philadelphia. Maybe it was a reprint or import of an HK newspaper, but if this made international news, its kinda surprising.

I was especially surprised when my wife asked if I heard about this when I hadn't said anything about it or what I knew from this thread.

In any event, it's sad to hear what happened. I haven't read up on any of the story's but how accomplished was the pilot? Was it just a freak accident or was the pilot just careless?

I've seen videos of Alan Szabo and the like flying pretty close to themselves and doing crazy stunts, and granted they're very proficient at flying, I have to wonder about the consequences of something happening like a link popping off or some other mechanical failure that could be disastrous.

I have nothing but respect for those guys, but sometimes I wonder if that's something that's always in the back of their mind when flying.
