View Full Version : Standard vs V-bar head

I've found a decent deal on a new Logo 500. It has the standard head. I would really like to go V-bar eventually. Would it be best to do that now or fly for a while and then upgrade to the V-bar. From what I understand, the head is competely different and the tail gyro is incorporated into the V-bar electronics. If I go V-bar now, I wouldn't need to purchase the separate gyro and maybe I could sell the standard head while it was still in new condition.

Hope that made sense.

Thanks.

I don't think anyone would buy a used head, but they share a lot of parts (grips, thrust bearings, etc). You can get the upgrade vstabi head which contains only the bits you wouldn't already have or a full vstabi head, up to you.

Depending on how good you are at setting these things up I would suggest you go with the flybarred version to get used to how it flies before you go vstabi. I've just gotten my vbar Logo 600 flying, but I almost wish I had the flybar head because it's a PITA trying to set up the ESC, the vbar and everything else all in one go. Once screw up and you've just flushed a whole bunch 'o cash down the drain. :D

That said, after getting it set up I love the way this thing flies. I have a grin on my face all day after flying it. Makes my flybarred Logo 10 (which was no slouch) look like a piccoz in comparison :D

jamesotron gave real good advice, fly it flybared first, unless you really like to tinker and got extra $ to spend at this time.

Thanks guys. Going the flybar route first makes sense, especially since some of the head parts are interchangeable.

Something that bothers me:

I can see why you might pay a good deal of money for the flybar electronics, but the head looks far simpler than the flybared head... so why is the premium for it so great?

Flybarless = CNC head.
Flybared = plastic.

It doesn't make sense, even though the Vbar yoke is CNC, the flybar head has a LOT more parts & therefore should cost more.

You'd think the Vbar kit would cost the same as the flybar kit, less even.

You forget that plastic head has been made since dawn of the Logos, all logos are using the same parts, so even though it has more parts, its probably alot cheaper then a new design head (Vbar)

Also the alu used in the VBar head is VERY good quality, Ive smash, trashed my L14Vbar numerous times where the frames have been torn into pieces and blades buried 10 inches into the frozen ground, head has always held.

But sure, when more and more buy them we probably will see a pricedrop.

Reviving an old thread hear.

Two things. I see nothing on the VBar head that is aluminum except for the collar. Is that what you are referring to?

Next, I find things like http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/2_378_876/products_id/23811 ; is this the upgrade from a 3D head to VBar head? It seems to have more that is needed to upgrade an existing head to VBar.

Thanks!

There is only one aluminium head part and thats the one shown in the link you post.

The link seems to be for a complete head kit, mine came without blade grips and associated bearings plus I think there wasn't a feathering shaft included either, everything else was there. The parts that look like a washout mixer base and arms are the swash driver and I'm pretty sure the dampers come with the kit too.

Any ideas of where to find the upgrade kit instead of the full kit then?
