Have a few hours of sim time on Great Planes real flight 4 or whatever they just put out, and hoodwinked me out of $200 at LHS ;).

Also have a Blade CX2 that I fly around the house.

Anyway, got my Blade 400 last weekend, and did a few hover flights. Had my first real flying the same day later. Did well and made it home w/out any spills or breaks.

However, this teusday, I went flying again. Very cold here in IL, and put on gloves due to hands freezing. Lost some feel but first flight went fairly well. Had a few "almosts" but still pulled her out and ended up landing it fine w/out any scuffs. Last flight though, things go very ugly and I burrowed in hard from about 20 feet.

Blades, mainshaft, spindle shaft, tail boom, paddle bar all damaged, Canopy too :(. I fixed all that though, and it's basically ready to fly except 3 of my servos stripped out. These stock servos SUCK btw. Well if you crash that is!!! I have a feeling this will be a sticky(not this thread, but servo FAQ).

Anyway, wanted to know about the HiTech HS65HG as opposed to the HS65MG. I've read a few threads recommending the MG version, but I'm thinking the HG version should be good too, as the carbonite gears should take the abuse, but also last a bit longer due to less wear, and not to meantion $21.99 vs $35.99 at LHS :O.

Was considering the Spektrum DSP75's but hear they strip easy too :(. Maybe I'll get one of those for the tail rotor :)

Anyway, love the hobby, and might pick up a 2nd Blade 400 this weekend for a "spare". That way I can learn a bit faster versus fixing so much hehe!

I just installed the HS65MG's and they work great. A superior upgrade for the 400. Very quick and reliable.

The stock servos aren't too bad for what they are, but they do strip easy! You look at them cross-eyed and they break.

I bought a few packs of the Spektrum DSP75 gear sets, since they're identical to the gears in the DS75 servos. They're about 3 bucks a pack.

Like you, I'll probably upgrade, but for now I don't mind replacing a few gears.

Also, I don't know how much better karbonite will be. The shock of the lever arm of the servo jamming too fast for the little plastic teeth to bare = SNAP!

I think metal gears are definately the way to go. Of course that means the ball end or the linkage rod might bend instead, then. :dontknow

I'm personally waiting to see about the digital Hitec HS-5065MG servos. Dunno if they're going to be any better than the HS-65MG, but I'm guessing so.

I put a Spektrum DSP75 on my B400's tail and I'm not sure about it yet. I'm getting some wagging, and I don't remember there being any when I had the stock servo on there. So not sure it's the gyro, the gyro in digital mode, the servo, or the gain. I flew a little at lunch today with my gain set at 66.5 (stock) and got a little side to die wag. I bumped it all the way up to 75 and it helped, but it still kicks around pretty good when you throttle up... I keep thinking a GY401 might help me, but I have to make sure it's not something else first.

I noticed on some old pictures of the HS65MG servos, they only have the 2 holes on each side like typical mini servos. Newer pictures seem to show them with the 2 holes on each side, and now single holes on each side in the middle (like our stock mounts).

Did the HS65MG's go right in with no modification?

HS65MG not HB. the carbonite gears strip out too. the MG's rarely if ever strip.

I would but my spare parts bin is probably better if I get both of the same and only have to dup certain spare parts. Plus I'll be looking into nitro for summer ;)
thx
