I have a fut 401 w/9254 servo and 8103 Heli radio. I mistakenly erased all of my settings. Now I can't seem to get the gyro to go into heading hold. Is there a setting in the radio I am missing?

I am not really familular with the 8103 but you generally have to have the atv's on the channel above 50% which I believe actually is the gain% with my 378 there is a gyro function that works through aux2 which has to be above 50% for it to be in HH and I think this mainly applies to the 401,240.

Most likely. Assuming that you have the gyro control wire plugged into AUX2 on you receiver, go to the [GYRO SENS] page on your transmitter. Make sure that it is not inhibited (INH). If not inhibited decide if you want to control your gyro with the flight mode switch (F.MODE) or rudder dual rate switch (RUDD D?R)then set the percentages required for each switch position. Understanding that the 401 must be booted in the heading hold mode determine the position of the selected switch that your are going to be in when you boot your gyro. In other words, if your select the rudder dual rate switch, the normal position of that switch is position "0". Depending on the position of your servo reverse switch will determine the percent you will have to enter. For a start enter ~80% in position "0" and ~20% in position "1". With the transmitter on and the switch in position "0" switch on the receiver and see if the gyro boots in heading hold. If it does not switch the percentages assigned to the switch positions.

Thanks guys, I will try what you have suggested. It will be a few days as I damaged my battery yesterday and it will be a few days before I can replace it.
I will let you know what I find out.

Thanks for your comments in my post. I recieved my battery today and I tried your suggestions. Still the gyro will not lock into heading hold. The gyro initializes and then will slow blink. The gyro sheet says this is where there is no rudder operation signal being imput from the transmitter. It also says the rudder servo should not work. But the rudder does work. I have checked my connects and everything seems to be connected correctly. Also is there a AVCS mode setting in my transmitter? JR8103H
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tony,
The indication that you have is that you gyro is booting in standard mode. When this happened did you change the numbers on the [GYRO SENS] page? If you put a number above 50 in position "0" (I suggest 80) change it to a number below 50 (I suggest 20).
The [GYRO SENS] page is the AVCS mode setting page.
If this doesn't work please post the settings on your [GYRO SENS] page and make sure that the gyro control wire is plugged into AUX 2 on your receiver.

From what I have read the gyro is booting into standard mode. The [GYRO SENS] page has the [RUDD D/R] "0" at 80% and "1" at 20% and I have tried the reverse and still the gyro will not lock in to HH. I have tried moving the switch. The gyro is plugged into the rec. correctly. I checked with Futaba and they say the gyro should be operating correctly but could not add any advice because the radio is not futaba. :arggg:

It could be that you have a malfunctioning gyro, but before you send it in, go to the [MONIT] page and check that the end points of [AUX 2] move when you move the rudder dual rate switch. If the end points move then the transmitter is sending the correct signal to the [AUX 2] channel. If the end points don't move make sure that there are no active mixes that may be influencing the settings on the [GYRO SENS] page. If all else fails try to plug the gyro into CH 5 and see if you can set it up using the gear switch. Set one end at +80 and the other at -80 and see if the gyro will boot in heading hold in either of the two positions of the gear switch.

Go in the ATV menu and do as Bob mentioned. I believe on JR that Channel 5 is the gear switch. Set one side of the gear switch ATV to a negative number and the other to positive. That should put the gyro in AVCS mode with the switch one direction and in Normal mode with the switch the other direction.

Well guys I have done all that has been suggested. It is now on its way to futaba to be checked out. I have said so many times before the help that everyone offers here is just awesome. Thanks again everyone.

If you need further help I suggest looking at this link, it discusses that radio and gyro in particular.
