i'm looking into getting some new lipos, and what i really want is 10-12 minute flight times. what all are my options for packs that will fit that i won't have to hack the frame apart? a little bit of dremeling is ok but no skil saw action! i'm assuming i'll need something between 3800 and 5000 mah cells. here's an idea. is it possible to say, run my KP 2200's up front and somehow parallel in another pack for the added capacity, probably mounting this battery underneath with my bec pack. if so, does someone know of a diagram i can look at to make said adaptor? btw i'm running the rcp 1100kv 1000w motor- the little brother to the one that readyheli sells, although it's been discontinued. using a phoenix 80 esc and right now i've got a 14t pinion although i've got a 13t and 15t too. also i read somewhere (can't remember where) that this motor is actually 1000kv, not 1100. anyone know about that? it doesn't say definitivley on the box it came in.
I can fit the FP3200 and TP3300 packs without any problem. For the XES kit, I needed to upgrade to the metal tail unit to get the CG balanced correctly. Trying to get larger packs into the stock frame could be a problem though. Some people have been successful in fitting larger packs into the CF frame.
With the style of flying I do, I only want to fly around 6:00 min / flight. The 3200/3300 packs work perfect for me. I have looked at the Kong Power 3200 packs but their weights are much heavier than the FP or TP packs.
Cheers,
Dan

You can fit Hyperion CLX 5350 mah packs without mods. 12 minute flight times are cinch with these bad boys. Still light enough for most flight styles including light 3D

You would have to have 4 packs of the same mah and capacity...so 4 2200's 2 in par and both sets in series you would have a 6s2p 4400 pack.
you would use your existing serieis wire and make up two parrelell wires...easy to do...on Deans connectors...both bat positives to positive and both negatives to negative...you don't battery to battery like the series connector
The par wire I use on my ECO8 and use 18c batteries the 550 eats up. so 2 2200 bats becomes a 4400 pack. each battery shares half the load so the 18c's work fine.
The series is the 550...and two 2500 packs stay 2500 just increases the voltage.

Kepler, what was your setup again? 12 minute flights are pretty impressive, is that sport flying? I assume that is a 5S 5350 pack?

Paul.

^yea, is that a 5 cell pack, or two 3 cell packs? looking at the loose cells on www.truerc.com (http://www.truerc.com) makes me think of making some 3s2p packs with the 4000 mah cells. $15 a piece, i can't afford not to try!

Thats $180 in cells....guess it's a little better than buying 4000's but they still will be only 10 -15c cells...am I correct?
Now you also have 12 cells that could have one go bad.

true, didn't consider that. and i didn't even think to check the c rating on those.

I looked and didn't see any 20 or 25c packs....the 550 really sucks juice. the 15c would be ok if you were going to do the 6s2p packs, but why spend the money and have to build them....solder joints, etc. wait for a sale..I have been looking at the Zippy packs that several have bought....just don't need any more packs right now...

Hi!
I'm using 5s with 3900mAh 25C / 1,5kW Gaui / 14T pinion / 1800mAh Kokam 2s and Align BEC -> 1900rpm and 10-12min flight time (depends on Idle1 or 2 and usage :) ). I'm Using Gaui 50A Esc Gov with 70% in Idle1 for 1900 and 75% for 2000 in Idle2

Will 6s or 5s packs fit under the canopy on the top mount on the CF version? I would love to be able to run like a 5 cell 4500 if possible.

Hi!
I modified mine a little bit... I'm using a Raptor skid and mounted the canopy holder on top of the skid... hte Gaui skid has it beneath... with that modification I have a little bit room when using 5s on-top... I don't know how big 6s would be but I would say it's maybe too big. And there's no real sense besides you have one...
otherwise take 2x 3s...

Z20, 14 tooth pinion, 500mm carbon blades, 100% govenor,5350mah Hyperion CLX 3S packs x 2. This will give you 12 minutes flight time with sports flying (loops and rolls) plus a bit of mild 3D.
My current setup is Z20, 16 tooth pinion, 500mm carbon blades, 100% govenor,4250mah Hyperion CLX 3S packs x 2. This will give you 8 minutes flight time with sports flying (loops and rolls) plus a some medium 3D (all I can do).

Hi Kepler, thanks for the reply - I assume that the z20 is the 980kv motor?

i belive there are 3 different z20 motors, and one of them is a 980kv

You're right... there's one with 980, 1470 and one with 1700... last one could be used instead of an Gaui with 1,5kW to save power consumption and still have enough power for 3D. 980kW is for average flying.

I use the Kong power 5000mah with the Z20 980 motor. A bit heavy for this heli and I had to add some counter weight on the tail to get the balance correct. (I can post some photos if needed). Around 12 min per flight.

does anyone know off the top of their head what the inner diameter and outer diameter of the 550 boom? i've got a line on some cf tubing really cheap. i think the o/d is 21mm, but have no idea about the inner.
