I need a bit of assistance. This machine has all the typical hardware: 9252, 401/9253, GV-1, YS80, SB-16, SAB-710, 8UHP, etc. The GV-1 is not set up with the magnet sensor but rather the optical pickup installation. We sprayed the bottom of the fan flat black except for a 3/8 wide strip so the sensor could pickup on the shiny aluminum.

We set up the system as the instructions say but I can tell during flight that the governor keeps kicking on and off. The engine speed fluctuates and the tail wags. The head speed we set at 1750 RPM. When I turn the GV1 off and simply ride the throttle curves, the engine is nice and stable. I just really like the handling and sound of the machine when it is on the GV1.

This is my first experience with a 80-90 size machine and also my first with a GV1. Any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The easiest thing first and this happened to me. Make sure that all the paint you put on the fan is still there. I had a bit of paint chip off my fan and it totally confused the GV-1.

Do you have something on there to protect the sensor from ambient light? Maybe some sunlight is slipping in there and overloading the sensor. Or maybe your sensor is too close to the fan. It's needs some room for the beam to spread and reflect at an angle.

... just a couple thoughts.

Mark has a good point. I've never had a problem with ambient visible light that I know of, but the sensor must be considerably farther away from the fan than with a magnet system. It probably depends on who made the sensor, but about 10-12mm works for me.
