Hi all,
I'm trying to fine tune my R90SE (which it happens to be very nose heavy) and in an effort to get the CG right I decided to move the battery backwards. I'm using a 4300Mah NiMh and I'm kind of reluctant to go any smaller (anyway the 2500mah I have still make it nose heavy if I place it on the nose)
So I found room to place it on top of the main tank and that seems to get the CofG pretty much in spot.
Has anyone tried to put it there??? If so, are there any cons of doing this???
Thanks for all the input.
Here are some pics

I am not sure I would put it there.

It will be subjected to more vibration, and would have to be wrapped in plastic to prevent the incursion of fuel.

My 903D is a bit nose-heavy as well, so I appreciate your posting this and am looking forward to how others respond.

Can you post a pic of the whole frame? It shouldn't be noseheavy. I think you can place it above the fuel tank though.

Kind of strange that its still nose heavy.

Well, now with the pack over the tank is ok, before that I had it behind the Rx strong Box and in front of the vertical wall of the servo tray, standing vertically to keep the weight as far back and up as possible and then it was nose heavy

I'm surprised to hear your having trouble with it being nose heavy. Every heli I built has been tail heavy. You are checking with a full tank right? Heli's with the tank in the back are to be checked with a full tank, This is so the heli will get a natural forward motion as the fuel is used. Heli's with the tank in the front are to be checked empty.

Good point, and no I did it with the tank empty.
I'll check it with full tank.
The other question is:
I used to check balance just holding the flybar rod while perpendicular to the boom but I read somewhere to do it holding the main mast with the heli tipped to one side (mast gets horizontal, and the whole heli is see sawing on it) it seems a lot more accurate this way, or it isn't????
Thanks,

Well, I knew it wouldn't be too easy.
With the full tank and the battery at the back is tail heavy, needs 4 oz of weight in the front.
With the battery at the front but as far as I can get it it gets nose heavy needs 2oz of weight at the very end of the tail.:dontknow

Well, battery is on the front again. I added 2oz of lead on the vert fin.
I guess in the future if I move to a FG canopy I might be able to reduce this weight.
I'll sleep it over and may be tomorrow I come up with a more efficient solution.
