After a lot of looking around I have decided to get an Evo 50 with an OS 50 Hyper and Curtis muscle pipe. :glasses2: From what I have read so far I should get the Carbon Extreme Dampeners and a Quick UK spindle. Are there any other essential upgrades needed for the Evo to do a lot of 3d flying?

medal washout the plastic one wares out quick spindle is not needed I have not bent mine with the cx dampeners I don’t put it through that much but matt botos has put it through its paces and it is fine

Hornet,
Nothin else really needed except what Bignnickey says. Spend the money on a good tail servo! Consider getting the plastic Freya tail blades and the 17 tooth tail belt drive gear.

For what it's worth, the following is what I'd put on a brand new kit out of the box.
CX dampners
CX Long Tail Fin (A horizontal fin really isn't necessary unless you like the look of one.)
Longer tail blades
The metal washout and radius block are nice to have, but you can get a few gallons through the plastic versions so why not get your money out of them :)
That's the great thing about the Evo, you don't need much in the way of hop ups to really have a great 3D 50 that doesn't require much if any maintenance :)

i thought the evo had a 17 tooth gear it is the top 18 tooth pulley you need to get

You can use a Freya drive pulley and Freya tail blades. Awesome tail power with this combo (cool noise, too!).
I have an extra NIP pulley. If you are interested, PM me.

i got one on the way from ricks hope it gets here for the weekend and i have the fraya tail blades on it now so i should be golden i just wanted to make sure it is the18 tooth tail pulley that the belt is in contact with in the heli not the tail and not the gear as i thought it was a 17 tooth gear but a duron gear is avalible if you want it

Duh! I always had problems with difficult stuff like counting.

Yes, it's the pulley that "pulls" the belt, NOT the gear that meshes with the lower main gear.

Ok good that is what I thought how much of a difference do you notice with the pulley on there what all do you gain

It speeds up the tail rotor a lot. It seems to hold better and has a "crisper" feel. It's not a night-and-day difference, but it is noticeable.

What is your tail problem?

it is more than likely a vibration or the gyro sensor but who knowes every time i go up to fly i have to re trim the tail and it dose not seam to be holding the way it should i have a 601 through out the flight i was just out looking at my heli and it looks as if the tail shaft that the gear and pully mount to is bent i dont know how it could have happend it is a new heli with maby 15 flights on it never crashed and no hard landings who knows i hope i can find a new one for the weekend i have one on my other heli i have for sale but dont want to take it off unless i have to i think it might be causing my vibe

A bent shaft will definitely cause a vibration, but I don't think it'd affect the gyro too much.
What radio are you using? How do have the gyro set up? A drift in the tail is usually caused by an electronic setup issue.

If you are using a 601 just put it on heading hold. But remember to have your tail trim and sub trim in neutral. if you dont the tail will drift because the heading hold fights the trim input.

You also need to make sure that Revo Mix is turned OFF (or any throttle to rudder mix). Also, don't move the rudder trim lever once the gyro is "booted up".

Oh, yeah: Make sure you're in heading hold when you switch on the receiver!

But make sure the heli is in the same orentation if you carry it from the bench to the field. if you dont the heli will spin around to reach the same direction when spooling it up. dont ask me how i know. :arggg:

Just give it a quick rudder input to "re-center" the gyro. :glasses:

i am using the 9z all mixing and trims are off i even inhibited the trim for the rudder with the same effect i am runing it in HH in f3c with 37% gain i have tryed it in 3d mode aswell with the same result i have no idea what is going on with it

I have a gy 401/ 9254 combo sitting around, so I'm gonna stick it in the Evo.

this sounds strange but i witnessed it this weekend.....if you have the sensor of the 601 mounted too firmly it will cause drift.....Rodney used that heavy duty 3M double sided tape on his 601 and was having drift problems....at the advice of someone at our field he used the softer tape that came with the gyro and loosely wrapped it down with velcro(in case the tape comes loose).....his drift problem disappeared......seems the heavy duty 3M stuff was so hard that vibrations from the heli were transferring to the gyro........might be worth a look
