611 travel adjust and the life of the servo

I was looking at Jason Krause's website.

Under Gy611/601 setup, I found this:
. Adjust your tail linkage so that your tail servo limit setting (last menu) is over 100% NOT under. Set the travel equally for both A & B at around 110% to 120%. Setting the limits under 100% can reduce the life of the servo.

I'll take his word for it, but can anyone explain WHY this affects servo life?

Because the servos travel range is reduced and it is working more in a smaller area. I always do my best to get the travel range set to at least 100% plus on all servos.
