View Full Version : Man I really don't know which to go for... 450, 500, 600N???

So I think I had my moment the other day where it "clicked" and well...

I'll admit it.

I should have listened to the few that have told me to start "with the best."

I've now put close to $540 on my Falcon 3D including the cost of the bird.

I've got a guy that's going to sell me a 2.4 radio at a damn good price.

I should have just started with a 450.

I still love the falcon though, don't get me wrong. It just doesn't have the power to really "go further" and the weak point in this bird is the main frame... they pop almost with every crash and there is no CF or Aluminum alternative.

Now I don't know which way to go.

I'm sure as funds get better, I'll end up with both a 450 and 600. Something to play with at home, and something for the many open fields nearby.

But man, which to go for first.

Money at this point is not a factor. I'm doing it right this time, and not a "got to have it now" attitude.

I've done my reading.... the 600 is more stable, yada yada, the 450 is cheaper to fix.... 600 costs more to get going...

What is your OPINION.... as at this point, that's all that matters.

Orientation for me is golden. I haven't started inverted flight in real life, but have a good hold on it on the sim. I've done a few tic-tocs, piro flips in the sim... but in real life all I've managed to pull off is an inverted hover and a few flips and FFF/figure 8s, and FF/hovering in any orientation.

Opinions?

I'm leaning torwards 600N for the sake that I can still use the falcon to cure the "itch" for flying without dragging everything out to the field, and deal with the mess of nitro.

(600E is NOT in consideration, batteries are just too expensive, plus I have experience with nitro motors, rebuilding is no problem.)

I started with a falcon 3d also. I started flying helis in November 07. I had not found the freak when i got the falcon but it did teach me tail in hover and a bit of FF. After a few weeks I had aout 300 in it and stumbled onto helifreak. Here it is less than 3 months later and I have a rex 450, rex 600N, and rex 500. I still have the falcon but I have not touched it in a while lol. I let me friends try it out if they agree to pay to repair it if tey crash it, usually about 20 bucks or so.

IMO get the 600N. Long flight times, refill and continue flying, stability, agility, authority, yadd yadda.

For a smaller heli the 500 is hard to argue with. Flies a lot like the 600.

The 450 is nice but just too small when there are other options.

I find myself wanting a 600E now. Talk about getting addicted and going broke .

a) Get real, it doesn't matter, you are going to buy them all in the long run. :) Pick one, they are all good, enjoy and later add another one.

b) Which 2.4? If it is the DX6 or 6EX, unless the deal is REALLY super, I would think about waiting and getting a better radio.

DX6 - DSM only, so only works with the AR600/BR6000 Rxes, so is park flyer only (NOT a 600). 3 point pitch curves, Idle up top point is hard coded to 100%. Better, IMO, than teh 6EX.

6EX - no sub trims (hard to setup heli), no separate pitch curve for Throttle Hold, no timer. Futaba Rxes are more expensive.

I started with a simulator and Blade CX (taught me how to fly), then went to the Blade CP Pro (discouraged me to the point that I almost quit helis), then got the T-Rex 450 (I LOVE that bird), and recently acquired a 600N (not quite ready to fly). I like flying the 450 in my back yard. The 600N will require a larger area. Since you already have a "back yard" flyer, I would go with the 600N! Get the 450 later when you've "used up" the Falcon.

I have all the align helis and then some other heli's as well. If you have a falcon, then go for the 600. The 600N flies great, you get decent flight times with tons of power. The 450 is great.. i have 2 450SEs and 1 450 xl. I like them all and they all fly great but I would suggest the 600 for you. If you are also considering the 500, thats a good choice for an inbetween heli. I love mine, flies great and feels very light while flying so you can fly it calm or bang it around really well.

The only JR 2.4 radio is the X9303. Unless it is a module based radio with the 2.4 Spektrum module in it.

i have both...but fly the 450 more...the 600 needs more space to fly, plus all the extra equipment you need to carry...the 450 can just give you more flying time anywhere...it's all about how much time you wanna invest in this hobby is how good you are going to be...

my daily practice is sim flying everyday for 30 minutes
450 every other day about 8 packs a session
600 on the weekends

but if you are really into this hobby...DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!!!

if its the 450 get the best 450
if its the 600 get the best 600

dont rush, take your time and research, research. and more research!
YOU CAN NEVER LEARN TO MUCH!

I am having some of the same issues. I have a 450 v2 and love it! I would like to add another heli. Unfortunately my LHS does not support Align, they will order any part or heli that I ask for but it can take up to 10 days the items to come in. Ordering online, I do not like to order 1 or 2 items becuse it coast more in shipping then the parts. I am building a very large inventory of spares. Now my flying skills are basic at this point.
Now for the Question, please give some opinions,

A. another 450, same parts
B. 500 larger more stable, but has some small issues that need to be worked out
C. 600N larger more stable, no doubt I will have one but it is has greater cost

I do value the opinions, I have learned a great deal from this site and the individuals.
