Bob is in Hawaii and will be back next week. Corsair, the Jazz is awesome, I am sure Bob will confirm for you his thoughts but Ihave had well over 10 of them now and all have worked flawlessly. ;)

We're still talking flip4mac right with the watermark comment? Anyway I just bought a new MacBookPro and was wondering about having to pay for it since my last computer had it installed a couple of years ago. Things often change so I was wondering if I would have to pay for it this time around on the new laptop. Checked last night and you can in fact download and use it for free. Now unless you were commenting on VLC it sounds like your saying if you try to move the files to imovie then itputs the watermark.
Right I was back to Flip4Mac and yes the issue of the watermark is visible only when you move the file to iMovie, that's it.

I've got a question about ball link sizing. Is there a reason to not use a ball link sizer with Mikado links? In the flybar video Bob shows using toothpast to loosen up the link so it's got me wondering. I need to loosen up my links on my tail pitch slider as well and seeing the toothpast trick has given me enough pause to not use a ball link on anything just yet.

The flybar links were too big for a tool thats why the toothpaste trick was used. The other links can be adjusted as normal. I found mine were all fine though.

There's no need to resize any of the links inc the flybar big balls ! They all loosen up very quickly after a few flights

I can confirm this as accurate.

agreed I did not have to size any of the other links but the BIG link on the flybar was way too tight for me. It was SQUEAKY tight thus I had to size it.

Bob

I did the same on my 1st build (the L600) but on the 2nd build (L500) decided not to and they loosened up nicely within a flight or two - the ball is not shiny and IO think it laps itself in real quick !

Just wondering what Bob and everyone else here thinks of the Logo 500 3D overall.

Is it good for a sport flying beginner?

Are the parts quality as great as I hear?

How does it fly compared to the competition (T-Rex 500, Hurricane, ect.)

A final review on each build would be really nice to see. The build videos are great! An entire thread or section for heli reviews would be wonderful.

Edit: I have found the HF review forum and will post there.

It's a great heli - you can set it up slow and steady for beginning or jazz it up to be a small hotrod - parts quality is good - not perfect but good. It's also a tough little sucker - I've smacked mine fairly hard x3-4 times now and I am very pleasantly surprised how quick and easy it is to repair. It is also great on 6s which makes lipo acquisition more reasonable. You can't really compare it to the TREX 500 its a different size heli - more akin to a 30 nitro.

I just built one and got it up in the air a little over a week ago with 20 something odd flights in on it. So far I can easily say that of the helis that i've flown this one is by far the best. My dad has a Trex 500 which i've flown a number of times and while I like the way it flies it still feels heavy in the air compared to a Logo. I agree though with Mercuriell that you can't really compare the Trex 500 to the Logo 500 as they are quite a bit difference in size. The new Logo 400 is actually a more direct size comparison to the Trex. My Logo 500 with 560mm main blades is really close in size to my Trex 600. I don't see any reason that the Logo wouldn't be a great beginner heli with some toned down setup.

John, just curious what you feel might be your benchmark - do you have a heli that you think the part quality is best in class?

Thanks

Hmmm that's an interesting question... I have built a few helis ;)

I would have to say the best parts quality of all the helis I have ever built have been:
Hirobo in general has great quality! I have built a Freya, Sceadu Evo 50, and Lepton EX.
The JR Vibe 90 was totally awesome parts quality! Every bit as good as the Hirobo and in some areas better.

Whilst having nowhere near Bob's experience :noteworthy:tongue - I have built Sceadu EVO 50, Logo 5/600, two T600Ns, 4 T600Es and maintained assorted Rappies - I would agree that Hirobo occupy the high ground and I think Align parts are pretty darn good too - they come in for a lot of flak but considering the VAST numbers of models out there they do pretty well - Mikado do the best gear moulding - their double helical main gear is awesome and I think QuickUK do the the consistently best after market add-ons. My TREX600N with Rotorworkz frames, QuickUK swash and tail unit, Kasama head and a Hirobo CF tail fin to me represents the nirvana of helis - now how to get them into one manufacturer - maybe a Bob SE edition of the T600 !!!!

PS I'm toying with the idea of a JR Vibe 90 (partly based on Bob's enthusiasm)

The only competitor to the L500 is the hurricane 550 size wise (blade size) in the current market. No real competition though, the L500 is in a different league.

As to quality, the mikado' are good especially considering its mostly plastic where others use CF and aluminium to do the job.
Robbe, Mikado and JR have always been terrific quality wise (from my experience) the worst are quick worldwide, century and Align.

If you think the hurry 550 compares to the L500 I got a bridge to sell ya ;)

Thanks to all for the input - it is definitely most interesting and good food for thought as I ponder the next machine and also head to Toledo Ohio for the big midwest show next wk end.

And now back to your regularly scheduled program...

Since posting my question I have been doing nothing but research. The Logo 500 3D has a common theme regarding both the build and flight handling: QUALITY. I have seen very few reports of quality issues. This model is well engineered and very refined. Mikado has used this design for some time now, refining it along the way to near perfection. I have no doubt that the Logo line of Helis are a world class product.

Now as for the competition they are all great but still have much refining to do before reaching the quality level that Mikado has achieved. The only thing that will effect the final purchase decision in my mind is cost. You can get stuff for a few hundred cheaper, but will spend a few hundred to improve the product. Mikado does it right once, right out of the box. Plus you can upgrade to a Logo 600 and/or V-Bar if desired. I think that is great value.

Bob: How did it fly with 550 blades?

The biggest thing that makes the Logos different is the way they fly, only people who own or have flown the Logos can verify this but I can certainly tell you with 100% confidence that they fly very good imho, that is the number one thing that makes the Mikado machine is their excellent flight and feel ability. ;)

Is there a missing video for "tail servo setup and push rod"?

I hear Finless mention it will be next, but the following video is about landing gear.

Did I miss it?

I notice that the (Mikado for Futaba) servo arm for the tail servo seems too long, and binds against the frame.
Did you guys trim it down to fit?
