At 14:20 of that video you say next section will be tail servo and push rod ... but it isn't.
No biggie - I was just wondering about the tail servo arms being too long (the Mikado arms for Futaba servos). Mine is hitting the top of the frame. Did yours?
Update: Oh... must be in step 12

Hmmm interesting... Your right. I missed shooting that part. However if you look at the Solid G gyro setup here
http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/logo5003d&filename=step12_tailgyro.wmv
You will see about 1/2 way in that I did trim the servo arm so it didnt hit the bottom.

OH MAN.... I gotta say flew the snot out of my logo500 today... Pack after pack.
550mm blades are the way to go. I HAD to mod my JAZZ ESC with a heat sink though and even then it is still getting hotter than I like but I think it is now in the "safe" zone.
Needless to say I have a new 500+ sized heli that I FREAKIN LOVE...
Control level beyond expected with 550's and SMOOTH....
Also it took me some flight time to get use to how freakin LIGHT this heli flys! I was over pitching being use to heavy helis like the 600E. MAN once I started getting dialed in with the feel of this thing... HMG... PURE LOVE!

Bob - do you think upsizing the ESC would help with the 550 blades, or would you use a smaller pinion and let the motor spin faster to unload? I suppose what I am getting at, is if there is a change that could be made in the build that would help allow the 550's to be used without issue?
Thanks!!!!

This weekend I tried a 15T and 14T... Didn't like the performance. So either put a heat sink on that Jazz or get a larger ESC or a different motor....
Now that I have put a heat sink on my Jazz even though it gets to 140F with the heat sink, I now it will be alright so that is what I am sticking with!

So what were your TCs set at when running the 15T? I'm running 86% in idle 2 with 15T and getting 2320 head speed which seems to be a good balance.
Also, what HS did you have with 16T and TC setting?

I did not want to push my TC for gov mode beyond 80%.. Sorry I don't think that is a good idea myself. How can the ESC govern at 86%? That gives it only 14% head room. I left them at 80%.
Maybe wrong to do but was my thinking when I did it. Maybe the jazz an handle more but if so I bet HEAT is the outcome along with bogging? No?

Well my HS seems fairly constant at 86% with a 15T and does not bog. It can do constant tic-tocs (10+) with very minimal change in HS (based on sound). I personally think that 86% is enough head room when the motor is geared down more and allowed to run faster. When I ran 16T (80% on Jazz) everything seemed to run quite a bit hotter but with the same perceptive performance. Maybe I'll need to try 16T again since there will be a better comparison after running the 15T for so long.
EDIT: On 16T I was seeing about 140F on the ESC and with 15T it runs about 120-125F.

Hmmmm OK... Maybe I will try 15T again and try 86%..... Seems odd to do that but what the heck! I got the pinion and I can easily set for 86% :)

When I did my first maiden with the 16T I tached the head speed with both the 16T and then 15T and found that the Jazz ESC is producing a mostly linear increase in head speed from 65-85%. The difference in HS without changing the TC is about 150 RPM when changing one tooth size but there is a huge difference in heat. Looks like you might have been running around 2400+ head speed on 16T at 80% :wow2:
HS on 16T -
65% - 2190
70% - 2250
75% - 2350
HS on 15T -
75% - 2190
80% - 2250
85% - 2310
Here is a link about the history of my experimentation with pinions and TC.
http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=54057
But it wasn't until I went to +/-13 pitch and +/-7.5 on cyclic that performance really jumped.

BruceW - are your quoted HS #'s with 550 blades? Or all with the Rotortech 560mm?
Bob - what 550 blades have you been trying out?
Thanks,
BruceW

Rotortech 560mm blades.

My head speed with 16T 80% and 500mm blades was 2350. So I did tach it. The ESC never got how with 500mm blades.
When I went to 550's (Raptor 550's so you now) the head speed was the same. Remember the Jazz gov is in effect here! To help with heat I dropped my TC to 75%. I did not tach the head at 75% but still got a lot of heat on the ESC (145F).
This weekend I will try 15T again and 85% TC. I will tach the head too and see what I am getting.

Bob, I am running the 15T pinion with the Z30-1150 motor with Jazz controller and rotortech 550,
at around 75-80% I am taching 2250 and now heat problems whatsoever,
I am going to try the rotor tech 560's shortly, as I just got a pair
Bob, I had another question - I am not sure how to figure it out - when I hit throttle hold on my DX7 - all setting seem correct. Anyway, when I hit throttle hold in a hovering auto after a flight - I seem to be losing cyclic control. Have you seen this with the Logo or is there something wrong with my settings in the DX7,
I know how to set it up and experienced flyer - I have not seen this before - I am going to try and hit throttle hold with zero pitch on the ground and see what happens tomorrow, but I am at a loss of why I am seeing this,
any thoughts,
Jeff

Weird.... never heard of that? Does it do it on the bench? e.g. plug int he heli while in hold. Do the servos move?
Bob

its fine on the bench - but I will check again,
maybe because the heli. is so light, I am bleeding off too much head speed and the blades are losing authority - it happened on windy days - but I have not taken it up for an auto, because I don't want to chance losing control - I will try it on the bench again and see what happens,
Thanks - isn't the logo 5003D a cool heli. - I love it - as it has the best power to weight ratio.

What you might want to try for a real auto is set your HOLD to about 15-20% throttle and try it. This way you can bail out without going back into soft start.
Yes loving my logo man!

Have you any PRGMIX dialled in - I had a nasty experience when I tried some throttle-aileron mix on the 9303 - when I was spooling down on my T600N I hit throttle hold and it input full lateral cyclic -> Mother of all boom strikes - turns out the mix defaults to 100% input but I still haven't figured out how it got onto throttle hold as I set it up only on idle1

that is a good suggestion - I will make sure I don't have any mixes programmed in by accident - thanks for the heads up!

Bob,
Do you have plans to make a video for the V-bar setup?

Not unless Mikado wants to send me one to do. I don'tt have the coin right now for the Vbar system.
However, I do plan to do a setup/review on the new $300 Robotics SK360 system though.

You gonna do it on the L500 or a different bird. My plan has been to go V-bar by this summer but if this system is good it'd definately be an ease on the wallet.

I may try it on a Trex500 first and then the L500....
