This is an "E", but perhaps you slimer guys can benefit from my mishap. :nanabobo
OK, planted the 600 this last week in a failed auto. :BSS
Only damage fortunately was a broken rear skid support. Now... I have seen a lot of people mounting BOTH the skid supports backwards lately to where they face aft to keep the tail up...
I left the front support facing forward, and the rear one facing aft. Yes, opposites. I seem to have found the best of both worlds. It is a noticeable difference. Without a battery pack in and the blades folded back, the tail now is off of the ground, when before with no pack and blades folded, the tail rested on the fin. Now, she sits level. It is noticeably more solid with a 6s pack in the nose.
Even though the skid length is the same, I am noticing a better "footprint" of ground stability. It seems a lot more solid on the ground. Now... Just to paint the skids the same yellow as the bird.:)
FYI...

No slim here, just smoke, noise and engine tuning here. Did I mention lots of fly time on a tank of fuel.
Thanks for the tip.

I've done that on my Trex 600 too, and it worked fine.
By the way, does your photo show your ESC with the heatsink mounted against the frame? If so, you'd be well advised to turn it over and face the heatsink out. If not, it will eventually smoke for sure.

Thanks for the tip. You may also want to use foam tape on that esc vs. wire ties.

Never thought of foam tape... Hmmm, may have to look at that. It is actually "mounted" with velcro right now. The ties are on very loosely. Just to keep the thing on in case the velcro comes loose.

I use velcro to hold the ESC on and use a narrow double sided velcro strip to secure it. The strip comes in a roll and you just cut off the length you want, it has the advantage that it's soft so won't cut into wires etc. and is easily removed and refixed. Using zipties is not a good idea, the UK Align importer includes a seperate note in the box of all kits to state that the warranty on ESC's will be void if they are secured with zipties.

OK, sold. Thanks for the idea about the velcro strips. I have a few of those laying around. I'll make that my project this rainy afternoon along with painting the skid supports yellow.

I have to agree on the skid mounting. I have had mine mounted both forwards and backwards and the heli sits much nicer with them mounted backwards. I have not noticed much difference when taking off and landing. But when moving the heli around with the blades folded it balances much better, not always hitting the tail fin or tipping back. The only down side I have noticed is the canopy clip does not engague as well.
