View Full Version : ION amp draw?

Trying to get a feel for how many amps I can expect to pull. I have the Hacker combo, SAB 710's, geared down with the 60T lay-shaft gear. This is for camera work so no 3D, just hovering. I should be turning about 1600 to 1700 rpm and carrying about 4 pounds of photo gear. At first I'll be running the new IB3800 round cells (32).
Thanks!

Looks to me around 19 to 21 amps fully loaded (I'm thinking about 17 pounds AUW). Headspeed around 1600 rpm at full throttle. Motor should run at about 92%, dissipating something like 50 watts...nice and cool.

Wow, that's lower than I thought. Maybe I'll be able to get away with flying round cells for a while. Dymond (we spoke about them last week) has some new 4000mah lipo cells but they are only 7C. That should be enough though only drawing 20 amps. 5S2P packs should do it. I'll have to see how the IB3800's do first. If I could get 8 or so minutes out of them I'd be happy for awhile.

Just watch the size of those cells.
You have a limited width and height to work with and still use the canopy.
I got some really great cells the other day that I will let you guys know about soon as I get a few more cycles on them.

Very true, the 4000's are considerably larger cells. When I'm ready, I'm going to take the ION in for a trial fit to see if it's feasible. His 2000mah cells are a bit thicker also. Honestly, I'm hoping the IB3800's will do me well. I'd have no qualms sticking with a few sets of round cell packs for AP work.

Chris,
2 cycles on those packs I told you about.
Bit on the heavy side 4.5lbs for the pair, but 9000mah and I got GREAT power on my setup.
Two 7 minutes of flight time (mild stuff some loops, rolls, flips) and I only put 2700mah back in.
Soon as I put a few more cycles on them I will post my complete results.

9000 ma , man on my fury E as 10s3ps ,actro 32-4 , 9.5 to 1 I got 20 minutes of flying and still had power when I landed , man with 9000 ma, I bet I can fly for 45 minutes with a 1550 headspeed , with the 40-160 , and run 4 sets of 5s4ps at 17 lbs with 16000 ma . I bet I can have a world record flight with a MA bird , like over a hour huh? need some lipos for my 10X, might have to do that when I go home tomorrow, 16000 ma :smokin:

That's not bad, about the same as a 32 cell pack of the largest roundcells. The extra 1.5 pounds over a "typical" Lipo pack will not matter much except to those wanting to fly vertically or in a small box (aka hardcore 3Der's). Hover stability and wind penetration should be great as should straight line speed.
For camera work, they should be fantastic...nice long, stable flights.
For the price you mentioned these may be a great alternative.

So far so good...
I just got info on the "ultimate" test job for these things...
Should be able to provide a VERY good review in about 2 weeks.

I know....I just don't want to get anybodys hopes up before I have at least 5 cycles on these.
At the rate I get to fly that will be in about 2 weeks. :D
Soon at I sure they are holding up well I will fill you guys in.
