View Full Version : My Mount? Critique?

Below are the pictures I took of it. The camera is a Nikon Coolpix L4. Decent but the video doesn't have sound.

Here is the set up that I got:

It only took about 5 minutes to do but all that's at the bottom is a piece of medium thickness balsa. I cut holes on either side of the landing skids to accomodate the blue zip ties. I will add some CA to harden that. Without this balsa, the camera will just fall down.

The camera is held on by that very faint clear zip tie (zip ties are awesome). It's just at the top but it's enough to where I don't think it'll fall off.

Now I'm pretty sure I had a charged battery when I went to test fly it and just see if it would even pick it up. It did but after about 40 second of just a steady hover above my head, it kicked in the low voltage and did what it's supposed to do, just cut the power a little bit, making the chopper drop to warn me about the battery.

Now this was a charged battery so I don't know if just 40 seconds of flying did something to it or what but I'm charging the batteries right now and will do another test flight tomorrow.

If you have any suggestions, please tell me

Thanks

~Michael~

It is difficult to know what you want us to say, Mike. You have just strapped a camera rigidly to the undercarriage. How do you work the trigger?

HeHe, sorry. I guess just how does it look?

It's very very redneckified if I may say so. I just kinda put it together.

Right now, I haven't added anything to actuate the shutter as for still pictures. I'm just trying to get the settings right right now and am only taking videos.

I guess what you could say is just about the battery cutting out. Would the extra weight cause that. I have a fresh charged battery waiting on me when I get out of class later today and I"ll see what I get this time.

Is it worth boosting the head speed to a certain speed?

Here's what I've been working on,
I would Def look at mouting that to a TREX450 with a few more screws...
I've been playing with the idea of mounting a Camera on the nose with no Canopy.

I don't want to slam on your creative ability, in anyway,,

The cam trigger is the 821 Servo that has the weird looking colors on it.
I'm still working on it,, I just picked up a TX / RX JR SX6000 that I'm going to try with it.

Hello, i fly a Protech 450 ep, and my flying time is just 30 sec to 1 min lower with the cameramount on. So it has to be something wrong with you batteri. I`m lifting about 3lb total wight with the Protech 450. But i also think you will have alot of vibiration on your film when you har mounting your camera that way you do. Your doing good !!!
I'm still working the bugs out of the mount,,,
I've been looking for some sheets of Carbon Fiber at a reasonable price.
I'll start working on it again when I find some.
I re-designed the whole thing in Microsoft Visio.
I have the blue prints,, I now need the material.
Thanks for the Input..

In this thread, I built a really cheap and easy camera rig for my trex 450, out of kite rods, and a piece of aluminum L bar that I picked up at the local hardware shop.

Self levels, and has very little vibration.

Here is a video to give you an idea of how steady it is... and you can see it try to level the camera, it works good enough ;)

Hei trireme!

I looked at your video and camera mount, I`d liked it alot, Seems to me that you did a great job with the rigg. My rigg is just the prototype, i will work on it after i get my new logo 500 in the air. I also thouht that the video was great. So rock on.
On my rigg i dont have the tilt with a servo om my rigg. I dont need that yet, i want a downlink before i do that.
