This will end with another "my setup" thread. But I can tell you if you get a YS 50 ST with an Align muffler you will have I think the best 50 size setup. The reason is that the YS has a presure system so you dont neead a header and also your engine will run very consistant. YS runs very smooth und makes tons of power. So get a YS 50 ST with Align muffler an get happy. ;)

Why does this mean you dont need a header? I dont want this thred to turn into a "do you need a header or not?", but a pumped fuel system is no good if it is not picking up fuel.

Personally I use the OS 50 Hyper, my one concern is the bearing issues with the OS 50's so I would also go with the YS.

Tom I´ve flown a OS engine without a header and ist shutdown sometimes. This never happens again with my YS... I dont want to turn this thread into a "do you need a header or not?" thread. I just tell you what I noticed.

I'm not sure I understand your point. All I am saying is that the pump is there to make sure the engine does not run lean towards the end of a tank. Maybe you were saying that a header does this too??

I have also flown a YS without a header and have had it cut. I just don't want the thread starter think that installing a YS is going to stop it sucking air because it wont. Personally I always install a header (even though the tank is apparently designed not to need one) as I get a lean run with the non pumped OS toward the end of the flight. A YS will not have the lean run problem due to the pump. However if the clunk in the main tank faulters the YS will still cut.

Sorry if i sounded harsh, not easy to convey oneself properly over keyboard:hug:

Sorry to the original poster for the thread going off topic slightly but here is my opinion.

If I were speccing a new heli i would run the YS WITH a header. Some will disagree with the header tank but I like to have it for peace of mind and on top of that the extra 1-2 mins i get flight time.

I run both a Fuel Magnet in main tank and a header Tank just to be on the safe side .. i am a sport flyer so weight isnt that big a deal to me

I have the OS Hyper with CY MP5 Pipe

There is an advantage in running YS to avoid using muffler pressure - your clunk lines will last longer this way. I run the Hyper though!

There are YS and OS lovers and both crowds will tell you which is best. Truth is, both are good engines and you should consider whether spares are available from your LHS or favourite online retailer.

For muffler, if you don't mind a loud one go with the Align pipe. If you want power without the noise go Hatori. The MP5 will need a notch ground out of the frame as it won't fit the 600N otherwise.

Which is the better engine??? Well guess its up to you and what you like.

As for myself I'm running the hyper O.S. 50 been very happy with it. I've run Y.S. engines in planes and love them to death. I think both engines are good. You just need to make a call on it perhaps look and see what others at your field are running if you have the same engine makes it eaiser to tune with those guys.

However my hyper I'm running the MP5 pipe runs great been told that the MP5 pipe does not run worth a can of beans on the Y.S..

So again I guess its up to you and what you like. Everyone on here will give you thier opion. Not saying that mine is right as I had wondered the same thing should I go with Y.S. or O.S. Knowing that both are great engines.

Also I do not run a header tank on my heli and will not as i find that it doesnt need it, nor does my brothers or my friends that fly. But were out here in CA so that may make a difference dont know.

From what I hear Y.S. with align pipe or O.S. with MP5 or the pipe of your choice pretty much goes for the same with the Y.S.

Hope this helps, Id go with what the guys are running at your local field though cause they can help tune

i've ran both the OS and YS, with the align pipe, i like the YS, but I'm trading out my align pipe for a hatori.
