just flew my 500 for the second flight and brought it inside... i was looking at my heli on the bench and noticed that the swash was comming apart on the bottom! the small collar that looks like clips to the bottom to hold the bottom bearing on the swash is comming off and was resting on the bearing block!!! anyone else had this problem?

Mine is the same .I dont see what it does .

it looks like a small piece of sheet metal ring that covers the bearing... looks like a dust cap. If the swash clicks or it pops down again I will just cut it off and make sure I TRIFLOW the crap out of the swash...

Whats coming off is the bearing shield on the bottom of the swash. The shield serves the purpose of keeping dirt out and keeping in the light grease that its packed with in. I had the shield fall out as well.

I just put in back in place and glue it with a little (VERY LITTLE) CA. Take a look at the picture, the red areas it were I used CA, and you ONLY glue the outside edge of the shield, the inside edge must not be glued.

Remember great care must be taking with using CA because if you use to much it will get into the swash bearing. I used medium thick CA, and used the tip of a tie-rap to apply the CA (take your time).

Thanks.

ahh perfect THANKS! so its really nothing to worry about... If if comes down again, I may just cut it off all together and just make sure I regularly clean it with tri-flow oil.

I would not cut it off, then you will have whatever you apply in there spraying out while flying etc...

I wouldn't leave it removed or cut it. Like Shawn said, whatever triflow or gease you put there will get thrown out. Also, once dirt gets into the bearing it will start wearing it fast.

Thanks.

I am gonna have to do that I guess... Now do you have the glue on the edge of the ring and the actual swash plate metal???

swash designs seems like it could use some extra work. my first crash caused the non-rotating swashplate to pop out of its race. maybe thats just the hitec metal gears in my servos not giving!

It's not the swash design but the bearing race sheild design... Cheap bearings again.... I have made Align aware of the bearings they are using as of late. Seems some are getting sloppy fast on all Align helis not just the 500.

Bo, maybe you could zap Align with an ESD spike.....:)

Bob, are you going to swap them out for some higher quality bearings? If so, what brand(s) would you recommend?

Like on the 450, I think they are custom size bearing on the swash.

My bearing sealing has come off after 20 flights.

What do you guys do?

1) Keep flying as if it had not happened.
2) Fill the bearing with grease and keep flying.
3) Ground the heli, until you have replaced the bearing?
4) "Other"

Thanks

Go back to the first page and do the fix shown there. Has worked so far on Ctimruns 500.

FYI I just cut mine off and every 5-10 flight I flush it out with some spray silicon oil. It doesnt tend to throw oil around anymore than the oil you put on the main shaft for the washout and swash to slide up and down on. I tend to like this better anyway as I can actually clean out the swash bearing now :)

Still putting my kit together. Went a head and CA'd shield to the outer race after
a quick alcohol cleaning.

I don't even have a shield like tcast305. Perhaps mine fell off during shipping.

Or maybe they actually put a better bearing in. :wow2:

I did the same. I just said screw it and cut it right off. now i just make sure I keep it clean and it works fine.

If it fell off, you would be able to see the balls in the bearing.

I guess you are lucky and got the one with a metal seal.
