i need some help,i bought a used raptor .30 and it had a 401 gyro and a hitec 925mg ultra speed and i happen to be at a LHS and there was a young kid working and he said that the servo wasnt compatible with the 401 and when i asked why he said that noone should ever use a metal gear servo on the gyro and besides it wasnt compatible with the 401,i cant really afford another servo now,and the only extra servos i have laying around are some new futabo digital 3151and a JR nes 507,would one of these work if the kid is right, unless i can find someone to trade me something, but anyhow is this kid right about not being compatible and should i never use a metal gear.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. The 401 can use any standard or digital servo with a 1500 millisecond center. The 925 will work great with the 401.

The servo will work. However the "kid" was "parlty" right. The 401 gyro works best with its matching servo, the Futaba 9254. This is a fast, digital servo with a .06s rated speed.
Your 925 is slower, and non-digital. Make sure you set the gyro to non-digital mode. The servo should be sufficient for learning to fly, but once you start doing aerobatics, you will probably want to upgrade the servo to get decent performance.

Ask him what kind of gears are in one of the best gyro servos on the market, the 9251 and 9256.
Hint: Metal

thanks for everyones help, yea i was gonna use that servo along with the 401 cause i thought it was good enough to learn on,ive rebuilt everything on the .30 except the main gears which are good and now ive got it ready to trade to some parts for the .50v2 that im building,i used the .30 all summer and fall to learn to fly and had one small crash,im gonna let the 401 go with the .30 if someone tells me that the jr 7703d is a better gyro and i will get the match set,if not then i will get the one that you recommended to use with the 401,but still thanks for all the feedback its been helpful ,thanks oh,about the metal gears on some of the top servos ,i knew some of the better servos had metal or titanium so when i asked about them he said they would not work right cause they werent compatible with just the 401 but were with other gyros, thens when i knew he was possibly ( A CRACK HEAD ) seriously i knew he didnt know alot about helis ,it was first time i had saw him at hobby store, thanks again

The jr 7703D is a rock'n gyro and is going to replace my futabas. (1 gy611, and 2 401's)
