View Full Version : Motor "crash worthiness"

Just an observation. The Neu 1912H/1Y is built like a tank. It ejected about 20 feet from the heli with the motor mount and counterbearing protecting the pinion and shaft. Runs fine, no damage.

I wonder how an outrunner would survive in the same situation? Looks like the shaft will bend where monting plate and core join. Anyone have first hand crash experience they want to share?

I haven't had any motor damage in any electric motor so far in about 6 MAJOR crunches - there really isn't too much side force on the pinion as the main shaft bearings take this and the main gear strips in case of lockup.
