I am looking to build up either a Funkey Bell 222 or Hughes 500D .50 size heli and am wondering what would be good electric mechanics for these fuses. I thought about using the eRaptor 550 or 620 (620 I would guess) because of their overslung flybar, or maybe the new Century Swift mechanics if they fit well. I would rather not use the T-Rex 600 due to the mods needed to the fuselage.

Would either of these mechanics fit well without too much modification to the fuselage, or would there be a better choice of mechanics to use?

Thanks,

Steve

The 30 size Century/FunKey Bell 222 fuselage is much the same as their Airwolf one, and their was an article in the Rotor World magazine out of the UK about someone mounting the Swift into one - it seemed it was a very easy project. The same fellow had earlier done an electric conversion of their Bell 47 also.

There has been a number of such conversions and mountings documented in the scale forum of RR...might be worth checking them out.

I've fitted E550 mechanics into a Funkey 500E, pretty easy fit with little modification and most of the items required are included in the box, just add a little ply. I fitted an R50 boom and belt and ended up using 600mm blades, still with a 6S setup, the E620 boom and belt would probably make it a little easier as its slighty longer again. The E620 would fit just as easily, although a 10S setup might be overkill for scale flying. I fitted a 9T pinion to lower headspeed and fly around 1750rpm, 95% throttle, a 7 minute flight uses 3600-3700mAh out of my TP5000 6S packs.

Thanks Steve. That is just the kind of information I was looking for.

I'm getting ready to build a Funkey bell 222 using my trex 600. I didn't think there was that many mods needed??? it's to late I'm set on completing this project but maybe you know somthing that I should know the only major mod that i have ran into was that the funkey fuse is set up with a right side tail rotor as is the trex600 however the real bell 222 is left side tail rotor.

The only mod I had to make was a mount to raise the T-Rex 600 body for alignment and shorten the fiberglass tailboom by about an inch. Otherwise, the T-Rex 600E went into the Century MD500E body pretty easily. Pics in the T-Rex 600 Funkey thread.

Test hovered it today. Sounds like the real thing and very stable.
