I'm new to nitro's and am thinking of buying and building a new Raptor 30v2 ,it has the 49bb uprade,an OS37 and muffler for $460.00 it seems like a preety good deal, although all the threads i read say get a 50 right off the bat , because you'll regret not getting one after you have a 30.My train of thought was , that i could upgrade the 30 to a 50 later on,or eventually just buy a complete other kit and build it.I guess my question is , is this a quality kit? I just finished building a TREX 450SE-V2 and it went together sweetly, but I want to build a nitro now. Any advise will be greatly apreciated. My LHS has TREX 600n parts, and Align ,but no Raptor parts or Thunder Tiger parts, are any pieces interchangeable or how bad is it ordering repair parts on-line?

Seeing that you have considered and rejected getting a 50 the Raptor 30 is a good choice. You LHS can get Thunder Tiger parts without a problem, but if they don't stock TT parts you can get them quicker on line. You haven't filled out your profile so I don't know where you live, but if you are in the US then I recommend Ron's Heliproz South. They have a good selection and they ship USPS priority mail which is very inexpensive and will get to you in two or three days. Of course, you can select any shipping method you like.

welcome to heli's Smash,
You will not have any problems getting parts for a Raptor on-line. There are several web sites I go compare for the lowest price but I mostly get my parts from heliproz.com. With all the links to parts I post on here for heliproz other readers are probably thinking I'm a rep or something.
Anyway. Yes a 50 would be better but a 30 is fine. They both have the same size fuel tank so you will get longer flights with a 30 but they weigh about the same so the 50 will get you alot more power. If you already plan to get a 50 that is the rought I would go initialy. There is nothing wrong with the deal or heli you found, but I think you would be waisting the money to upgrade later. The conversion kit is about $80 but does not include the engine or muffler so you are looking at about $400 to upgrade not to mention a set of carbon blades. The conversion kit comes with a set of wood blades, tail belt, tail boom, main and pinion gears and motor mount, I'm estimating $200 for a motor, $100 for a muffler.
You said your LHS carries T-Rex 600, my honest recomendation to you is to go to your local flying field and see what they fly and get the same thing. This way if / when you need help you have it.

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go with a 50,what the hell , I'm only going around once!
I have a 50 Raptor(Titan) with the Thunder Tiger .50. I bought it used and have had a ball learning to fly it....almost 3 gals through it. With mostly hover and slow FF it will go 15 minutes on the main tank and another 2 or so on the header non-stop.
I have a new OS 50 Hyper ready to install, but the TT 50 is running so well I'm going to hold off.
You will enjoy the 50 for sure!

The nice thing about getting a 50 now is you'll have more power later when you advance. You won't have to upgrade the 30 to a 50 and spend more money in the long run.

Having had the Raptor 30 and then converting it to a 50, I would have to say that the 50 is a much better choice.
The 30 flies fine, but the 50 has a lot more power, lighter disk loading, and is a lot more fun to fly.
Both are very stable and easy to fly.

Now the question is ......although everybody says go to the flying field and see what everybody else is flying....and everybody says to get the TREX600n.MY question now is if I choose to go with a Raptor instead of the 600n,which one is the best choice? I'm not to conviced on ether one yet, but I think I'm steering away from the tourque tube,I don't think my flying skills(or lack of) warrants the extra costs asscociated with theTT.Opinions? or thoughts?

they are both excellent machines. I have Raptors, never flown a T-rex 600, but I go to several flyins every year and the guys that are doing all the crazy 3D stuff are either using a 90 size heli or a T-rex 600. Yes a Raptor is fully 3d capable but the T-rex is the lightest 50 size heli out there. This is why people into 3D prefer it. If you are worried about the extra expense of a torque tube while learning, there will be another reason to stear a way from the T-rex, and that is the way the T-rex acheives CCPM. In a crash the T-rex has a much higher risk of damaging a cyclic servo than the Raptor. In either case T-rex or Raptor, you can't go wrong, they are both execelent flying machines and parts are easy to get for either.

Hi Smash,
Welcome to the insanity. I have a Trex600N, and others, and I'm building a Rapter 90SE. Just to let you know the Trex comes with either a belt driven tail rotor or a tourqe tube. I have yet to fly the 90 but I can tell you the larger the heli the easier it is to learn to hover. The down side to the larger birds is the cost when you crash and belive me you will crash. The trex 600 parts are slightly cheaper to buy than the 90 but both are easy to get parts for. I found my self starting out with a smaller heli like the trex450 because it is cheaper to fix. It wont be long how ever untill you get the itch to go bigger. Thats what happened to me. I can hover and fly around a bit and can tell you from personal experence that the bigger birds are easier to do this. Just have to pay more for parts. But when you are hooked good you'll find a way to do it. My 2 cents.
Just went back and reread your first post. If you can keep the 450 in the air, for the most part, then I would go for the 90. I'm sure it will be quite the rush the first time you fly it. Wish I could be there to see it!
