I just recieved a second BLS 251. The first was DOA. Anyone have setup tips or a comparison to other tail servos. I'll be posting a comparison to the 8900G in a few days.

What gyro are you going to stick it on?
Remember that the pulse width is 760us at 333Hz so it is only compatible with the SpartanDS760, GY611, or Logictech 6100. I remember trying to stick mine directly in the rx rudder channel for a test and wondered why it didn't work... duh. Good thing it didn't damage it.
I don't have any first hand comparisons to other high end servos but it does seem extremely smooth and quiet compared to some of the others I've read about. There is also a caution note in the box stating that it can get very hot but so far its felt normal after all my flights. Its also only rated for 4.8V so I used the Align 2 way step down from 6V.
If you run the Mikado servo arms, they won't center at 90 when the wheel is closest to the tail. I added subtrim to make it neutral and that seems to work just fine with the SpartanDS760. The supplied servo wheels would probably work also and center better.

FYI Bruce, you don't need to subtrim. If you use the flash link interface on the Spartan you can trim "in the software" the tr servo center. This will eliminate the chance of any drift or unusual tendacies in hard piros. Angelos stated in another thread to absolutely make sure to have no tx trim for rudder on the Spartan gyro. Thought I would mention sorry to hijack, cheers.

The regular S9251 and S9256 have the same warning, nothing to worry about!

I know... this went around for a while in the Spartan thread but Angelos ended up saying that it actually won't hurt anything to add tx subtrim (in another part of that thread) if you adjust in rate mode. I'll give the configuration software a try and set the center that way and see what happens. Its worth experimenting and seeing the difference.
EDIT: Found the quote from Angelos about trimming any way you want.
This discussion has gone unnecessarily overcomplicated. The gyro does not care whether it is 90 degrees, 89 or 88. Keep it as close as you can and if you are picky use the the right servo arm or trim it any way you wish. But make sure the gyro is restarted to get the new mid-point for the AVCS mode. At the end of the day the gyro will work out what tail pitch is needed during flight even if the normal mode is a little out. The only reason for the 90deg is for the left and right arcs of the servo arm to be fairly symmetrical.

Hmm ok fair enough. I know on another heli when I had trim in "by accident" I could not get my stops firm on that piro rotation and was scratching my head. When I centered it in the software and removed my trx trim the weirdness went away.
I guess as long as it works for you all is good man. :smokin:

What about the BLS251 and Helicommand 3 Rigid? Does these work together?

BLS251 works awesome with VBar as well!

Oh ya, I forgot you would probably be plugging it into Vbar.:DOH
