View Full Version : HV85 mounting
Any ideas on how to mount a CC HV85? It's not intuitive how to do it without putting pressure on the circuitboards, blocking the heatsink, or otherwise sinning against Castle Creations.
In most of the pictures I've found, people have been mounting them against flat surfaces on their T-Rexes, which seem to be somewhat lacking on the Logo.
I could get it into the bay infront of the motor, but I'd have to take the motor out each time and I'm not sure about cooling.
Thanks,
K

i used a small balsa block around 3/8 thick, with some velcro tape, and two zip ties.....2nd photo is from bottom of heli, peace, randy.

Good point ! - I was puzzling over this one the other day - I ended up putting a thin strip of foam gyro tape down the middle of the heatsink and then a strip of Velcor tape on top of that- leaves its side fins free. I then put another foam square over the circuit board to diffuse pressure from a tie-grip gently snugged up over the circuit area.
Only other way I could figure to do it is to secure the wire ends and not worry about the unit itself

This is how I did mine. Can't think of a better way to do it. 3 pieces of double sided foam tape, 2 under the heatsink and one under the capacitors further down. note where cable tie goes over, it's on a metal plate & edge of the circuit board so none of the components are touched. Tie isn't pulled very tight either.
I did have the tie break in a crash and the foam separate. The heatshrink broke a little. I think we're meant to tie down their cables like in a plank!
Yeah, they coulda designed a better way to mount them!

Jazz fits like a glove on that shelf, you have to remember the CC escs are "MUCH" larger than any other esc out there. Even when I had a CC85HV on my 600 rex it was really hard to place due to its size.

I mount mine upfront with Velcro on the bottom; then I wrap it with a Velcro strap. I originally used a plastic tie but I wound up sending it back for repair...it strap crushed the control board.

I mounted mine in the trash can, it performs better there than it ever did on my heli :D
Sorry, I couldn't resist,lol !
Thanks for all your suggestions.
In the end I mounted it sideways with the circuitboards facing up and the heatsink facing down. I put 2 narrow strips of velcro on the top, one on each side of the fins (on the plastic shrink-wrap; not on the fins themselves). Then I put 2 bits of velcro on the 2 struts going crossways in front of the motor. Finally, two velcro ties holding the wires in place.
I think it's fairly solid. Time will tell.

:rolling:rolling:rolling - well the trash can probably makes a better heat sink !
