View Full Version : Just how many Brownouts/Glitches?

I would be really interested in knowing what percentage of T500's have had problems. If you have had a brownout or unexplained glitches, list

1) Rx
2) ESC Voltage
3) Humidity in your area

Personally, I am using the R921 RX, 6V on the ESC and humidity 'always' above 50%.
My 500 has been rock solid!

I have glitches, resulting in a crash.

I can only assume it was a brownout. Another flight I had forward elevator with no stick input. Was using an AR6200 at that time.

On two other flights after the above I had a twitch in the tail I was able to duplicated in flight using the AR7000. My motor definitely has something going on and might have been the cause of all the above.

Glitches and multiple Rx shutdowns with my 6200. Lucky for me in noticed this before flying and did not result in a crash which it would have. I'm working on pinpointing the problem.

is it just me, or does it seem like most of the brownouts/glitches are comeing from people running a 6200 receiver? I ran a 6100 and hade no problems. I have a new 6200 that I was planning on putting in for extra insurance with the extra receiver on the 6200. But as i have been reading, it seems more people getting glitches or brownouts are coming from people running a 6200.

I have not had any so far, knock on wood... One thing I have noticed in a lot of the HF threads with pictures is that the people with receivers that run satellite antennas run their satellite receiver with the same polarization as the main receiver. In effect this is like not running a satellite receiver at all. When I see all the posts about brown outs I just wonder if they are crossed polarized or not. The way to know your polarization is to put a plane through both the antenna on each receiver. The the planes are parallel (or can be rotated keeping the antenna in the plane and become parallel), you are not getting any benefit from the satellite receiver. If the planes intersect at right angles you have the proper setup.

Just some food for thought.

Bump...!

Is this all the 500 flyer's we have on this site....? 40?

It seems there should be a lot more votes than 40! Especially with all the "static" talk and posts. I personally have only experienced 1 very tiny tail kick within my 30-40 flights. I'm not going to worry about it.... Other then that 1 small kick, and a motor "squeal" that has went away, the 500 has been great.

No problems at all !
AR7000 rx, antenna's are perpendicular to one another. (as per instructions)
I realy don't understand waht the fuss is about.

I don't understand either....? I think it's all about the "build", and electronics placement...

At first I had problems. I had located the receiver on the bottom bracket not the receiver mount.

Had all kinds of glitches. I tried different antenna placement, ESC placement, and wiring routing.
Nothing help until I relocated the receiver to the receiver mount per instructions.

4 flights with full length antenna, 4 with revolution whip antenna, and no more problems.

I would not think that moving the receiver that little bit would make a difference but it did for me.

Moving the receiver either gave it the little more distance that it needed, or got it up so it was not inline with the interference it was experiencing.

9z, 148DP pcm receiver.

Started with a Futaba PCM RX, no problems 30+ flights.Recently switched to a DX7 with the AR7000 RX, No problems 20+ flights. 500 flies great not a single hiccup or twitch yet. No ground, no graphite dust, No nothin... Set up w/ stock motor, stock esc. per manual.
If or when they come out with a TT, it will be interesting to take a poll to see if the same 20 % are having problems after getting rid of the belt.

OK, so far there're 74 guys with NO glitches and 17 w/glitches.

Can the 17 show the placement of their electronics and what they're using? Just curious. I will start a new thread for the unfortunate 17.

18 here, stock 500 setup
stock motor, stock esc with 5v on bec
3400g cyclic servos
gy401 and s9254
ar7000 with jr x9303

7 flights before in flight failure.

experienced a true lockout, no control, the helicopter dove straight down tail in into the grass. ouch!

You know, I was one of those that said I would wait until something happened. I am running a Stock 500 on 6s and yesterday was the first real dry day in Nor Cal that I flew the 500. Other days have been more humid due to the rains. Well, at noon yesterday, I had no problems with the 3 flights I flew. However, yesterday afternoon after work, I had 2 in flight incidents. The first brown out occurred while I was very high in the air but doing a flip. It browned out for about 1 second and then I regained control. The second time was on the second pack and it happened while I was low but luckily upright. I hit Throttle hold and saved it, then flew for more but kept an eye on it.

Since then I've changed to an external BEC and hopefully that will help isolate the problem. We'll see.

I'm running the AR6200.

hitec electron 6 FM
stock BEC/spedo @6V
stock motor
esc ground strap to motor mount
225 mg cyclic
401/9257

The motor cuts out for about a second randomly. I still have cyclic/collective control when the motor cuts out
The tail will do a 90 degree kick in backwards flight. For a noob like me this makes flight interesting lol.

I am considering going to a different speedo and a scorpion motor.

Did someone say Electron 6? Hope I am reading that wrong. If not you might concider a New RX.

21% with problems with 104 votes in. That's significant!
