How much wind is too much for a beginner to try to hover/fly in with a Trex 450?

5mph or lower should be fine, once you are experienced, fly in 15mph or if you like a fight, 25mph

When I started I use to wait for a calm day, yea right! If I did I would be waiting for weeks. Just get used to flying in wind and the calm days will arrive as a blessing.

Agreed. It's a tough time of year here in NY.

It's not just the wind but the gusts also that make it much more difficult. If the wind was a constant 12km/h that would be fine, but when the wind speed is constantly suddenly changing it makes the heli balloon up or drop down.
I also get the weird stuff like it will seem calm where I'm standing but a tree 300m away looks like it is being blown by a gale... It makes me wonder that it might be calm at ground level but no so much a few hundred meters up.
