Ho Folks!
I recently bought an SL 720 gyro for my Trex SE and have encountered some problems with it. I’m relatively new to the hobby but am able to fly a heli conservatively without crashing. Let me list my equipment first so that you have a starting point:
Tail servo: Futaba s3154
Radio: Multiplex Evo 12
Here’s a quick run-down of the way in which my problem developed:
1) I initially set up the gyro in quick-set mode and flew the heli for about 4-5 flights without any apparent problems.
2) At one point, I noticed that the tail drifted significantly to the right in mode 0 and tried to correct this by re-running quick set mode for mode 0 per the manufacturer's instructions. When this didn’t work, I tried using quick-trim and had to move the tail servo in order to access the mode.
3) When I was finally able to access it, I tried to trim the heli on the ground (instructions say to do it in the air) but almost at the point of lift off. When the tail stopped moving, I flipped the gain switch thinking this would turn the function off (the instructions aren’t quite clear on this) but the tail would not respond (the pitch slider would not move to neutral when the stick was placed in that position).
4) I turned the heli off and then on again and tried running quick-set mode (the instructions say that the quick-trim is zeroed when this action is performed). It appeared, however, that the tail remained “stuck” in quick-trim mode when the gain switch was in mode 1 and would return to neutral in mode 0 but was completely ineffectual in either mode when I tried to take off. It would spin uncontrollably to the left even with a full right input on the stick.
5) I tried the gyro sense reverse in both the on and off position, checked my radio settings (which had not changed since the time the heli had functioned properly) but all to no avail.
6) I attempted to re-set the gyro by entering quick-set mode several times but nothing seems to help: the tail input has no effect on the heli upon take off in either mode and in mode 1, the servo does not come back to neutral.
I am hoping that I simply set something up incorrectly and that the gyro is not defective. I have not crashed it prior to all of this occurring and I do not believe I have operated any of the equipment incorrectly (but then again...). I do not have a PC interface but have wondered whether or not hitting the reset button would solve my problems and therefore I should get one. Anyone have any experience with the 720 and could help? Thanks!!
Mark
