I work(3rd job lol) as a consultant in product development for a PC high performance memory and power supply manufacturer. The owner wishes to branch out and diversify the company a bit, and enter some different markets besides PC component sales. I've submitted a proposal that would outline the development of a higher quality 12v/13.8v Power supply for our LiPo chargers, that would produce little if any ripple. I have a pet theory that many of the power supplies on the market that people use are producing too much ripple and damaging either our chargers or cells over time. I have no proof yet, but I'm developing testing to confirm the existence of the ripple and well we can take it from there. I am also wanting to develop a product line with LiPo battery packs starting with a few more popular sizes ie, 2200mah, 3S1, 11.1v packs. Using tiered structure with cheaper sport packs and progressively more capable packs ie 15c, 20c, 25c, 30c etc....
What I would like to know is what sizes are most popular, that we should consider. I'm leaning just towards the 400 class heli to see how we are able to do peformance wise, and in sales if we can make a go of it. If there is strong enough demand for larger packs and great cell counts I might be convinced to try this as well, ie 500/600 class helis etc... Also, given current competition, what do you consider a fair market price for the pack you wish to buy, and what kind of warranty would you "wish" for? I'm not saying we could grant the world, but I want to know what to aim for!!! Either we will shoot for price performance champ and lower margin which will understandibly limit our warranties, or we could increase margins and pricing of packs and expand our warranty coverage to better than competitors, while still trying to tie or stay near current higher end packs ie Flight power, Thunder Power, etc... Not that they are the be all end all, but are at the higher end of the pricing tier that I've come across.
Products woud initially be US release, but we do have EU distributers for our memory now, so EU could be not far behind. Actually, my proposal for the Powersupply would be for a 115/220v switchable, and a PC type power cord that would interchange similar to a PC PSU.
Just wanting to nail down some ideas so I can present a solid plan to the company owner.
thx
John
