High guys
I am wondering what benefits i could expect to see if i used the longer 550mm blades on my Hurricane.
I assume the disc loading would come down making the heli more efficient but won't that mean the Current draw will go up spinning the larger blades?
I currently run the stock 850 motor and and 50 amp esc with 500 woodies.
Is there a benefit to flying with the 550's

No, you will only loose flight time spinning the 550 blades with your setup. The Hurricane is so light, that the discloading on 500 blades allready is very low. If you would go with 5000mA packs, a stronger motor and 3D flights, well then you could consider 550 blades.
I am running 515mm blades on my carbon hurricane, setup for 3D. On my scale Agusta 109A, i'm running 550 carbons because of the lower HS I am after and the increase in weight.

Tom,
What setup have you got for your 3d hurri - how many cells on your 5000mah packs?

On my carbon 550, I dont run 5000mA, I run KongPower 6S-3200mA. Very very nice for 3D!
On my scale ship, I run both a 5S 4000 and a 5S5000mA pack. Z30-1100, Gaui 75A ESC on both of them.
My point was, there is no need for 550 blades unless you increase your AUW by adding heavy batteries.

I think the 500mm and short boom are perfect for this heli.
I am going with the long (original boom) and 550 blades because I plan on lugging around a Helicam Solutions camera mount and camera most of the time.

I am runnig 6s 3100's 3300's and 4100's
the 3100 and 3300 balance the heli nicely and the 4100 area little on the heavy side making it quite noticable in flight. few clicks of trim do the job though.
At what stage when adding weight (i too hope to turn this into a sclae ship) should you consider going for the longer blades?
Cheers

Would the 550 blades make the heli more stable for a beginner? Like adding flybar weights?

Yes, it would. It would also decrease AOA for a fragment and enable you to play with autorotation practice.

Annother option for more stability is to use the Trex 600 flybar. it's is a little longer, provides more stability, and provides more control when you need it.
There was a thread or several postings about using longer flybars....
they are cheap and so far I like the added stability.

Have you change the paddles? or still using back the original paddles?

Here is the link to the longer flybar thread:

Looks like the 550 blades and a longer and more weighted flybar it the ticket for the novice to have a stable ship to hover and FF.
Thanks for the info.
