I am brand new to the sport. First post here.

I am starting with HeliSimRC and a USB gaming controller I had laying around.

My Newbie question relates to proper layout (mapping) of the controls. In flying flight sims and FPS gaming I always invert my Y Axis.

I don't want to start with bad habits and would like to know what the most common assignments for the sticks (mappings) are. So far here is what I have assigned to what function (mainly taken from HeliSimRC):

Roll Cyclic: Right Stick - Left/Right
Pitch Cyclic: Right Stick - Forward/Back (pull back to nose up)
TailRotor/Yaw: Left Stick - Left/Right
Throttle: Left Stick - Forward/Back (pull back to throttle up)
Collective: Also on left stick.

Is this fairly typical? If not could you please suggest what setting I should change.

I hope to find a Spektrum DX7 soon and pick up G3, Phoenix or Reflex. I plan to spend a lot of time in sim before I even start shopping for a Heli.

Thanks in advance,

Rayo

Looks good except for throttle. Push forward is throttle up.

Thanks for the reply. How about the Tail. If the craft is facing away from me... am I controlling the heading of the front or the direction of the tail. In other words, right now I am moving the left stick left to point the front to the right... like a tiller on a boat.

Thanks again,

Rayo

Different people set up the tail differently. My preference (I come from full scale) and , I think, most people fly the nose. So left stick moves the nose left.
