Just to share with you guys...there are lot more things which are common between the Beam and the Rex.

I have a bunch of Rex main gears that I have bought as spares and I have recently installed them on my Beam. But a point to note is that you got to swop the one-way bearing. It fly perfect !!

So now I got additional booms, links, main gear, landing gear, tail rotor blades, paddles and rod....for my Beam.

Unfortunately the main shaft and feathering shaft is not compatible :(

sure its been covered, but has anyone else had the problem of the slider being really tight on the tail shaft?? What are some tricks and tips on making that smoother???

possibly house hold remedy's to fix it with out buying something to get it smooth..

I just use some 600 grit sand paper to the shaft prior to final assembly. It does'nt take much to make it slide smoothly.

I smoothed my shaft out with the ol' Finless Bob paper trick! That was a new one to me! I didn't know a plain old piece of paper was abrasive enough to smooth metal! My slider is smooth as silk now!

Another BIG thanks to Bob!

I usually polish the main and tail shafts with "Mothers Metal Polish" on a rag.
Disassemble the head and sping the heli up, same for the tail.

If it's really rough a NON-GEL toothpaste will work also. It's a lot more abrasive than you might think.

On the paper trick if notebook paper isn't agressive enough, try a piece from a brown paper bag (Like the old grocery bags or butcher type paper). You can finish the polish with notebook paper or even a Kleenex. Kleenex is very agressive / high in friction.

Bob,

Just building my BEAM following your videos :D

The swashplate needed lots of sanding on mine. It's OK now.

1/ What do you think of the stock blades? are they carbon fiber ?

2/ I got a HG-D261HB Coreless Digital Servo (Ino lab) for the rudder. What Gyro would you advise me ? 401 ? or at the same value is there another one that does the trick ?

http://www.rc-tek.com/us_store/hg-d261hb-high-performance-digital-tail-servo-coreless-motor-p1960.html

PS: I was a bit disapointed by the plastic canopy; otherwise the heli looks great.

Not sure what the stock blades are made of but they fly really well... I could not really tell a big difference between those any my Align white CF blades.

As for gyro I never used the RC-tek so no clue. 401 is a favorite for a 450 heli and if I was building another I would use that.

Bob,

Thanks for the reply.

I got a Scorpion v2 -6 motor as spare and a 45A esc scorpion.

I removed them from my 450 se, and went to 430XL & 35X because I had some cutsoff with the scorpion stuff.

I don't trust that much scorpion products (personnal opinion). I was about to get a v2 -8 with a 35X ESC ... do you recommend me this for the beam ? I don't do MASS 3D; just starting funnels & inverted ff; but i like consistency in the tic tocs maneuvers.

So I've no clue of what to install. Give the -6 another chance (but I won't put the 45A ESC ... maybe it was faulty)... or get a -8 motor ... or maybe another brand ? medusa ? neu ? I want to use it with 3S 2200 25C .. and get 5 minutes average flights.

Sorry if it's hard to understand... but any advices are appreciated.

I'll go with the 401 :D

Take care,

Cédric

The -6 is a little to high a KV for me... I don't need that much of insane head speed. I think the -8 is a better fit and gives longer flight time.

Thanks Bob,

I'll go with the -8 and a 35X (I had lots of problems with the 45A ESC)... what pinion should I use on the -8 ? a 12 teeth pinion for 5:30 flight time ?

The -8 is a 3600KV motor which is 100 less than the Align XL which is 3700. For 3D 13T will give you about 3K head speed. THis is what I run on the Align XL motor. For lower head speed a 12T ot 11T which will increase flight time.

Cédric

Cédric, so was I. Reason why I ordered with the kit an optional canopy which is really great.

As for the Scorpion motor I do fly with scorpion - 8 V2 one and the 45 amp controller. Not a problem at all. However I have seen more people suing the - 6 V2 motor with the 55 amp controller rather than the the 45. Your problem with the controller maybe the motor not adequate to the controller or indeed a faulty controller.

curious about some of your flight times on the -8 motor... I am going to run 13t and 100% flat throttle curve in stunt 2...

Hi Justin911 !

I believe having already given my times to you in another forum. But here it goes again :

I am using the Scorpion -8 with its Scorpion controller, my packs are 2200map.

I am not a 3D flyer as yet, just sport flying but keeping a decent rotor blade speed, probably 70% all the way. I am very happy with this version of the scorpion engine and I'am using a 12T pignon on mine.

I stop flying after about 5:30 minutes. The lipo is then slightly warm and I put back around 1300map.

Well, I ordered mine at the hobbyshop I got my kit. This one is in Belgium :

http://www.rcmarket.org/home.php

But I guess you will find the same canopy and others in the main distributor in the US, which I believe it is AdvantageHobby.

http://www.advantagehobby.com/?cat=98&manufacturerid=343

You will see in the above link the canopy I ordered plus other types available for the BEAM.

cool. I was hoping I would get other flight times too. THanks though...

BTW: I got the orange canopy, and the pics really don't do it justice. It looks so good when its got sunlight hitting it! I love the orange one...

Would like to confirm with you guys that the longer arm of the Flybar Cage should be perpendicular to the stem of the blade grip right?

Mine is a little offset (maybe about 5 degrees) not too sure could this have resulted in the imperfect stationary fwd flip?

When ever I perform a fwd stationary flip, my Beam tends to roll to the left.

Could it be just a parallax error on my part or what could be the possible cause of the left roll phenomenon?

Insufficient head speed?
My motor is Z-power 3000kV at 13T (should be less than 3000rmp)

I have confirmed that there is no interactions between aileron/elevator/pitch per Finless CCPM setup videos.

Hi,

I'm mounting my INO gyro servo. Just did this to fix the servo to the arms that will go on the boom.

I don't see any other way to fix this. Is it correct? I'll dremel the end of the screws

Bob what's the word on the tail weight mod? Have you gotten to try that yet and has it helped improve the piro rate?

ROne.. I actually really like that canopy! You don't see many helis painted "flat" and not glossy. It looks good!

Finless

Havent done the tail mod yet mainly because the jig doesnt fit these grips so I have to do it by hand and have not had the time to do it yet.
The piro rate problem has nothing to do with the mod and everything to do with the gyro.

Thanks. I like the way it turned out. I didn't want the all white that it was in so I just took whatever spray paint I had and started spraying. As you can tell, it is obvious that there was no effort to make it look good lol...didn't do any prepping whatsoever. My only problem now is that I cannot put the any stickers on as they would not stick. At least it is more visible now.
