Woohoo! Thanks Bob.
And what's up with Hawaiian people? I sense that they don't like the Beam so much and yet post on Beam threads :dontknow

Looks like a GOOD quality heli, if it flies as good as it looks
it's definately going on my shopping list.
I'll wait for Bob's maiden.
What size servos fit this heli ???

Thanks Bob! This is looking like a great heli! Thanks for the explanation on the swash fix too. In April's issue of RC Heli Mag they complain about the swash being tight, you've put a little light on the subject.
I like how everything comes apart as compared to the Trex. I wish Align would do this on all their heli's. I get tired of disassembling checking for loc-tite, then reassembling. This design is looking good!
I just ordered one for $332 to my door from Advantage Hobby! YEAH! :)
I'm new to the heli world and thought I would start small and bought a Blade CX2 to learn how to hover. That is going fine and I'm also using the Phoenix sim. After following this thread for a while I couldn't resist any longer and ordered a Beam yesterday.:bananaHere is the set-up:
Scorpion 2221-8
Scorpion 55A ESC
Flightpower Evo 25 3s 2500
Hitec HS65MG (3)
Futaba 401/S9650
A few questions - What do you think of the overall setup for a newbie? What size pinion for this setup? Saw a video with the Scorpion 6...outrageous! Thought the Scorpion 8 would be more in line for me.
Thanks for all the info everyone offers. I learn something new every time I log on.

With the -8 you only need a 45 amp speed control... The -8 is suppose to be the most efficient motor of the -6 or -8. Not sure why everyone is going with the -6. I talked with Lucien in person about it.
Looks like you have a proven setup off the TREX.
I can't wait to get my hands on my BEAM. The engineering looks awesome! It's suppose to be here Monday, but I'm taking off to Peru, so I can't get my hands on it for a while :(

Bob, any comment on bearing quality?

Bearings are looking good but of course you really don't know how they will wear until you get some time on them.

Bob,
How about the screws in the kit? are they soft metal like the aligns or stainless steel?

Anyone looking for an extra Wiha 5.5mm socket driver for the grip nuts, you can get them at mcmaster.com.
Part number is 52965A17. Cost is $4.59. Their catalog doesn't say its a Wiha, but I called Mcmaster and confirmed that it is.
Tower has them for $4.79: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKN83&P=FR

I just saw the head grips video install and now everything makes sense. I was stuck on this part of my build which I posted here http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=60393 So no missing parts from my kit, right?

Ok thinking about giving one of these a try. Mainly because they seem to be fixing the two places I hate about my trex, the swash and the tail. Also something new!
What power systems is everyone running?
Could I use the 430XL and 35X ESC off my trex?
I'm assuming HS65's will work?
Basically I'm thinking I can just by the kit and move my trex stuff over, is that correct?

Hey Bob is the Beam Main Shaft the same size as that of the Trex either V1 or V2, if sow i was wondering if the Beam Swash could be used on a Trex.
Finless
02-29-2008, 10:44 PM
Yes same size so it should work on a Trex.
ALso guys I had too much to do before leaving on vacation so I didnt get any more vids done.... Sorry about that.... See you all in a week! Hawaii here I come :banana
