After reading the RC Heli review and seeing Bob and everyone getting so excited about this heli I just broke down and ordered mine... More money gone into this hobby!

Scorpion 45A esc
Scorpion 2221-8
DS285MG servos
Logictech 2100T + 3100G combo, heard this was difficult to setup..
6200 RX

Already looking forward to this build!

I gotta stop reading this thread. NOT!!! I want one. Just have to convince the wife to let me buy it after we find out how much the bathroom remodeling is going to cost us. :arggg: I am definitely going to buy the swash for my T-Rex if I am one of the unlucky few who have their aluminum Align swash separate. Bought it back in November so I am hoping it was after they fixed the problem and wasn't a left over.

Okay, I see a lot of people are going with the Scorpion motor 2221-8 or -6. I think I am going to go with the -8. Would that be good for mild 3D or more if I find 3D more to my liking?

Also, everyone says just the Scorpion ESC 45 but, don't indicate the BEC or the Commander series. Which one do you guys mean?

What pinion do you guys reccomend for the -8 motor?

I'm guessing I should upgrade to 2500mAh FP batteries from my 2170s that I run on my T-Rex.

Thanks!

The -8 and an 11 tooth pinion get about 2,800 rpm according to the RCheli mag. They are using a 2500Mah and a Scorpion Commander 45.

Lucien over at Innov8tive design emailed saying they are currently out of the 45 amp but expect more in this week...

I think the -6 would really rip but the -8 will let you do plenty of 3D and give you a longer flight time.

I too recommend the 45 Commander with the -8 motor and 2500mah pack (FP EVO25). It is a very efficient flight combo. You can run the 11T and 12T pinion with good flight times and very good 3D abilities.

I'm struggling over my decision to order the Logictech 2100T & LTS-3100G and am thinking of changing my order back to the tried and true 401/9650 or 9257 with step down.

My other choice would be to try the Hitec HG-5000 w/5083 sevo.. or just get the 2100T and a 3400G. I am using Spektrum RX and TX any ideas what would work best for this heli?

Okay, the Scorpion Commander 45 it is.

What pinions come with the kit? Advantage hobby lists it as "Motor Pinion Gear : 16T (14T)". I can't believe the pinion would be 16T or 14T.

Mine came with the 14T/16T. You can use a 14T if you run a 3000kv motor for example. I put a 12T as the 2221-8 is a +3500kv.

Thanks! The reason I found it hard to believe is that the combo kit came with the Align 3550 (they didn't specify 430L or 430LX). Okay, I could see that with the 430LX but, I think the 430L would have a hard time with those pinions. Or am I wrong?

I'm going with the 11T since I want longer flight times right now but, will jump to the 12T once I get more experience under my belt.

Maybe the combo kits have different motor pinions included.

Nope. Same pinion listed on the website. I was thinking on getting one of the combos but, I wanted a different ESC. Plus a combination that was more efficient and cooler. Besides, seems like everyone was finding the Scorpion combo the best fit.

Well, here is what I've come up with and it pretty much matches what everyone seems to be suggesting:

Scorpion HK-2221-8 V2
Scorpion Commander 45
11T Pinion
GY401
S9650 Digital Mini Servo
Hitec HS-65MG for the cyclic
AR7000
FP EVO25 2500mAh

I just noticed that Advantage Hobby has two new canopies or "Custom painted body set" as they are referred to, on their website. BMH421507YB Hot Red & Black and BMH421507YO Orange/White/Black 39.99 each.
Oddly enough these aren't listed under parts for the Beam they can be found under "New Additions" on the home page. There aren't any images for either one however.NEW 03-09-2008 02:13 PM

Cool, thanks Red. I had saw those on another site and assumed that these were the same that Advantage has. I'll let ya know when mine arrive.

Bob--

Do you think the Beam swash would be a better alternative to the Trex swash?

Like others on this thread, I to broke down and asked my wife if I can get one since its made by my countrymen. :) :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
My wife said okay but I have to wait until I am done with my 600 and 450SE V2 I got it for my Birthday :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):) :):)
this is reason why I got my friend who is hooked on this hobby since I know he can get me a set when I need one :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
One thing at a time.

Are we gonna see a new Thread board for Beam Heli?????

What is the quality of these canopies....paint wise? $40 for a 450 canopy seems like a lot of $$$ as compared to the Align canopies. The stock white BEAM canopy is garbage (paint wise) as far as I'm concerned, but it's only $10, so I can understand. For $40 I hope the paint quality is as good as Aligns.....?

About the same compared to the Align canopies. But that isn't saying a lot. I have 2 Trex 500 canopies, the yellow/blue/silver/white and the red/yellow/blue/white and they are pretty good but not perfect. Both have runs and trash in the paint. I have 3 of the Beam canopies, the white one that came with the kit and the two pictured above. Along with runs and trash in the paint the clear coat was shot unevenly in places, or maybe I should say dryer in some places and wetter in others, inconsistent. The Beam canopies don't have as much paint as the Align canopies either. Of the two I would pick the Align as being better. However, as Bob would say "your mileage may vary". Are they worth $40? No, Maybe $20. I also ordered the clear Beam canopy that was $10. I just wish Align or somebody, made a clear one for the 500.

i just received my beam painted canopy. it's ok... not nearly align's quality. Paint is not so glossy, some runs... Next time I'll go align and make some vinyl stickers that say "BEAM" It is a GREAT color scheme though.

Just got my Beam canopy as well, I was disappointed that it was plastic. Not as nice as the align canopies that are $10 less.

Also had to get advantage hobby to send me a new tail pitch slider as mine was really notchy and would not slide across the tail pulley clean. Two other friends of mine mentioned this same issue.

Other than that the build is coming along nicely.

Welcome back! Good to see you back and well. Now let's get on with the build videos . Electronics placement and setup is what I'm waiting for.
