OK folks... I am pretty excited about this heli and got it last week. This is probably the only other 450 heli out there that I would say "it's a keeper"! This is based on seeing it fly and me checking it out at IRCHA. BUT until I get it flying this is just speculation. Still parts quality is high for sure!

I will finish my Logo500 build vids before I start on this but in the mean time thought I would give you all a teaser of whats in the box!

Special thanks to beamheliusa.com for offering me the chance to share this heli with you all. AND to Scorpion motors for helping me with a motor and ESC.

So here is the teaser.... Whats in the box!

Swash Plate Prep
OK folks it has come to my attention (Thanks Beamheliusa.com) that some swash plate balls can be tight. It is important you resolve this for a good flying Beam E4. THis is how I checked and did a SIMPLE mod!

Now this will be cool. I was wondering why there has been no chatter here on this machine. From the pics I have seen, it looks really nice. I was going to push the button on this, but was waiting for Min. Air. to get the bandit out. I think I may just go ahead and get the Beam. I really like the front servo mounting, one piece tail, and overall look of this bird.

Video still works, just watched it. Bird looks like a quality machine. Frame looks slighty weak in places though. Sleek look to it however.

I have seen one up close. Mega motor usa had some with them at one of our funflies. I have ben waiting to see who picked this thing up as many places have ben trying. It is a great little heli from what I saw. Bob you are lucky That thing has the best servo mounting as far as maintenance I have ever seen. Damn I sound like a sales guy. Sorry I just like the heli and haven't got'n a chance to buy one. :Stay

I'm waiting on the beam build myself. Being that I don't like to jump on the bandwagon when something nice comes along, I do like the beam and have heard alot of postives. I was going to get a trex then a blade 400 but decided nah. If the beam is as good as they say I would defintely get one, since I don't like having what everyone else does a beam would suit me fine. Anyone that has flown the beam I would like to hear your reponse's. Beam build we're waiting or should I say hey bob are you there? You big teaser ;O)

www.advantagehobby.com has all kits and parts in stock for those that are interested. I have heard they are the primary importer in the U.S.

I built one last month and am in the process of putting together a couple more. The overall kit is grade A+ quality and the aluminum machining and finish is simply outstanding! Simply a joy to assemble. I am looking forward to more canopy choices.

I had to add some flybar weights to tame it down for my skill level, but very predictable and smooth in flight. I am not a 3D guy so I can't comment on that capability.

You will quickly notice that with the direct drive belt you eliminate the noise from the tail drive counter gear. Very smooth & quiet. You will not be disappointed.

Hey Bob let me know if the swash you got was really stiff...the bearing in the kit I got felt scratchy and the center was super stiff, enough to bind the head a bit even after lubing and working it a bit....

Thanks,
Sheldon
p.s. i just spoke to carl and he said you were headed our way again in march was it???

I've been thinking about getting this one. Advantage hobby is about 2 1/2 hours drive from me and I might be headed there this coming Monday. I'm curious to compare this with the TRex 450 side by side quality and build wise.

I just bought one of these and from what I see and read I really like some of the unique design features on it compared with my Trex. It looks like you may be able to put some of the Beam items on the Trex too and make it easier to work on like the Beam is. Can't wait to get building her and then flying her hopefully by this weekend!!

Bob,

What about the RC-Tek Diablo. I thought you gave it a real good review. Have you changed your mind on it?

Looking forward to this video build series as I have been considering another 450 size heli and have been leaning towards the Diablo. This will give me something else to consider. Great...............just what I need, another decision to make on spending some money.

Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this hobby. It sure makes it a lot easier for folks just starting out, like I was about a year ago, to down load a video that goes into great detail on how to build a heli or use the associated equipment. I salute you.

Thanks,
John

I found this bird very easy to build. I don't think you need to hurry on the vids.

It will be a T-Rex killer for sure. The parts quality and fit is superior to all three Rexes I've owned.

Look for an army of E4s at IRCHA this year.

This will be great! Thanks Bob!

My E4 is on its way so I'll be waiting for the build vids before I start putting it together. I'll also be using Scorpion's -8 and 45 ESC (I hope they will make a good combo - I'm not in 3D yet) thus making it very similar to what you're building.

Looking forward!

Adrian.

One of the touted design benefits of the Beam heli is the tail system that allows for easy changing of the drive belt. I am curious as to how easy this will be with a one piece case since the assembly instructions indicate the use of red loctite on the tail shaft bearings. Are there other options to Red loctite?

Finless
02-13-2008, 06:58 PM
Because the bearings push out of the tail case, I can see them wanting to use it for the shaft to inner bearing race connection but I would use green on the outer race for serviceability myself. In fact I probably wont use red as that is not it's purpose! A wicking locktite like green is what should be used in my opinion! They probably say red because green is not easy to find for the average Joe.

In the end what they want is to not allow the bearing races to spin on the shaft or in the case. Maybe even serviceable shoe goo would be fine. I wont know till I get building it.

Am am 1 week behind now and maybe a little more at this point. Sorry folks it will happen this month before I go to Bham in March.

Bob
