I'm just getting started on wire routing for my 500 with 9650 cyclic servos. Since the wires are fairly short, I'm interested in what other folks have done, especially with regard to the receiver location. I'm using a Futaba 146 receiver. Any photos would be very helpful.

Had the same problem. here's what I've done:

Futaba extension wires for the two front 9650, receiver on the tray. (futaba 607).
extension connectors tied up in front of the gyro.
ESC on the side, felt the cable for that one was short aswell with the reciever on the tray. I should probably redo fastening the wires around where they pass the tailbelt gear. Comments appreciated..

Sorry but I have not detailed photos to post but here is what I did :
Also use S9650 for the cyclic therefore two extensions for the aileron and pitch servos were needed. For the elevator servo no need in my case as it is closer to the receiver.
I use a Futaba 7C 2.4ghz. I placed the receiver in the botton of the frame just under the new tray for receiver placement. I wanted to have it as far as possible from the tail belt. The tray conceived for the receiver I use it as a "hide" wirings place as I had to add a step-down for my rudder servo (S9257) and my Gyro Futaba GY-401 has got quite a long wire.
ESC placed in the right side of the frame. I thought it was easier to place it that way and permits me to hook the lipos without removing the canopy as I use 2X 3S in series and a "Y" connector.
Good luck and enjoy the building,

No extensions needed if you mount your Rx on the Gyro tray..I fitted my DS760 inverted below the boom instead..saves weight + extra connections
