I gota get some bigger batts. While flying yesterday and after a five minute flight, my KongPower 2200 were not very warm and the cell voltage was sitting around 3.6 to 3.7 per cell. Later, when I was charging my batts, the cell voltages in one of my Kong's dropped to 3.2 to 3.3 volts and my TP-1010 did not want to charge it. I put it on my DN charger at 1 amp for a while and came back up but the cells did not want to balance too well. This was a fairly new battery with about ten flights on it. A while back, someone ad said, at a fun flys, that the T-Rex 500 and other helis running two small packs were battery killers. After two puffed FlightPowers and now my KongPower, I'm starting to believe it.

What is my best option without changing my frame?

3300 mA should fit nicely. As I mentioned before, you can get by with 2200 mA packs, but if you get carried away, the packs could be ruined. I fly with FP 3200 and TP 3300 packs. They are over $200 a set, but after 60 flights (20 cycles each) they are still performing strong. I am pretty happy with them.

Now if I can somehow make the rain stop for a few days so that I could test flight my new motor :( 21 days of rain in January and 2 in February are quite a bit to take :(

Hi BD,

I am using APlus 3300 22C, standard Gaui motor or Z20 (TT original E550 motor), and modded the standard frame iot fit the 3300 perfect. Admit not my original idea, but slightly differrent to the ones helidirect (I think) are selling. I get 11 min of hovering, FF and circuits. Push a bit harder for loop or rolls then about 8 min. The Z20 are really easy on batteries if geared properly. (14t on standard gears). Canopy fits perfectly, TT legs and skids...

Sorry for photo quality, will take better ones soon...

Hi Vinger,
Thanks so much for the pictures. I was just trying to figure out how to fit bigger batts and your pictures answered my questions.

Stock plastic frame, stock 850kv on 100% flat curve 14T, stock 50A ESC, 500 woods or carbons, 7S A123, FFF flips loops stall turns inverted etc, 6 min flights. Recharge packs in 8 to 9 mins with a Mastech 5020 & a small generator. Only two sets of batteries are needed for back to back flying all day :)

Great setup for learning on as you can clock up lots of flight time in a single visit to the field. No waiting around for cells to charge. Also use 2x 3300's from time to time. Stock kit will run fine on 2x 2200 3S if your just starting out & hovering around & some mild FF, 2200's are just lacking when you start moving on past that.

I am running the Flight power Evo 3s x2 2500 packs and 7 and 8s A123 packs, with my RCP 1100kv 1000w motor I get 4.5 minute of fairly hard flying with revco gearing and 21t pinion,(about the same as stock 13t gearing) flat 100% curve, when I had my stock motor I was getting 7-8 minutes with stock gearing. batteries are hardly warm

concept1, do me a favor and look on the can of your motor. i'm running the same one, rcp had two versions one was 1000w and the other 1500w. i always believed that they were both 1100kv motors until a couple nights ago. i saw on the can of my rcp 18 it says 1000kv.

anyone with the rcp 18, please look on your can. i'm wondering now if i've got a misprinted label or something. everyone seems to be saying the 18 is a 1100kv where mine clearly says 1000kv.

I have a RCP 35/24/11 laying on my bench, not installed yet (bought on sale at readyheli for USD 69). On the label, it is printed 1000 KV, on the paper with specification, it says 1100 KV on both 35/18/11 and my 35/24/11

BTW, I am flying 6,5 minutes hoover and flying around on stock Gaui 1100/1500W motor and 13T pinion on my 7S A123(putting back 2200 mah). 5,5 min. on 2 x Applause 11,1 3S 2200/25C

i'm also wondering if the reason these rcp 18's get so hot is that we are gearing them for 1100kv when they are 1000kv.

yea my H18 the label says 1000w but the spec sheet says 1100, when I got my motor from Ready heli I asked about it and was told it was 1100kv. but who knows for sure??? but my h18 never gets hot, just luke warm with the revco gearing and 21t pinion. I generally fly 3-4 flghts back to back never had a hot motor with this gearing.
