How tight does the belt need to be?

Initially the boom kind of slipped forward causing a slack resulting in a nasty rub on the tension pullies. Now I've fixed that and secured the tail boom with two scrub screws on the side. The belt is fairly tight, but upon spooling up when it reaches the set RPM I get a "whine" from the belt... The boom did not move this tile though...
When spinning by hand everything seems to be smooth, no weird noises.

So how do I set that belt? It also seems to ride low on the tension pullies.

i set mine at around 1/4 in freeplay between drive pulley and boom rollers.

Mine rides low, and I recall OICU812 or Mercuriell saying theirs did as well.

I don't understand how everyone is having the boom slip in, slacking off the tail belt.
It's designed to be pushed all the way in until it seats against the little ears on the tail boom/frame spacers. It can't possibly move any farther in then.
Then you set tail belt tension with the position of the carbon tail box on the boom.
It'll never slack off the tail belt this way, it was obviously the way it was designed, perhaps a small note in the instruction manual on this is necessary.?

Nathan

To be honest, that's not clear to me at all... would've helped if they would have added som slots in the frame where the tube the settles, that would've made sense.

And apparently I'm not the only one that didn't get that. I'll try it out thoug, but I think that the tail house is then not very far over the tube, sounds like a weak point to me.

NTM "Nathan" you are talking about the 6003D, he is talking about the 5003D, lol. They are abit different Nathan, the 500 has a case that pyhsically is in side the frame and does not have the tabs, plus in order to have the proper tension on the 500 you can not have the boom fully forward as the tail case is in fact stationary on the 5003D.

Thanks Shawn, I began to think that I'd overseen something...

I fixed the tail now with 2 scrub screws. Seems to hold fine. Flew today and ran smooth.

Thanks everybody!

Ahh, okey dokey ! Sorry !
What I said does indeed apply to the 6003d though.

I have got an experience with sloppy belt. I have done an auto with my Logo500 vstabi and i was a little bit afraid because it was my first auto with a flybarless system.

So when the heli touch the ground the tail blades touch also a little the grass with no problem, but when before i restart to fly i notice that belt was making the classic noise of a sloppy belt on the tail boom.
For a little touch in the ground the boom moved from its site.

It's very sensible... ;)
