Curious how others before me have resolved as to
what can I use to reroute the exhaust deflector on a Hatori SB-50 pipe on my Raptor 50 Titan to get the exhaust to exit the rear or upper rear of the body instead of exiting on the bottom as per the Thunder tiger fuselage instructions manual on a Hughes 530 body
what exhaust delector hose material is used ? (Automotive heater hose ???)
if so,
what diameter hose fits the opening on the Hatori Pipe ???
, any other issues encountered when rerouting ??????
thanks for all help

I used a 12" piece of hard silicone exhaust line made for RC Cars. The inside diameter fit over the Hatori pipe on my Hirobo Freya 60 which lives in a Century Hughes 500 "little bird". The Century fuselage just had a rather large hole where the exhaust should go so I took a 2" airplane prop spinner, cut a hole in the pointed end, stuck the tubing through the hole and epoxied the spinner inside the fuselage.
Hope this helps,

ETA: You can see the spinner in the first photo and the outline of the silicone tubing. I couldn't resist showing more pictures that have nothing to do with the exhaust.

The silicone exhaust extensions for airplanes work fine. It will stay cleaner if you route it out the bottom... ;)

rodan,
What will stay cleaner if you route the exhaust out the bottom? Instead of a deflector I have sealed the exhaust line so nothing can blow back into the fuselage. Mine runs cleaner then it did without the fuselage

I meant the outside of the fuselage. The higher the exit, the more exhaust will get on the boom, tail, etc...
I have mine routed out the bottom, and it stays very clean.

Very true, my tail section gets very greasy and dirty because the exhaust comes out the back. I wanted it to look more scale but that is the trade off. That is why I used two part epoxy paint that is impervious to all types of fuel.

maddogdan,
I used a piece of automotive heater hose that had a slight curve in it, and it slid over the silicone exhaust deflector thats on the end of the hatori pipe. When it poked out the back of the fuselage I trimmed the edge of the cut end to a slight taper all around. Then I mounted a large rubber grommet to the hole in the rear of the fuse for the heater hose to slide into (tight fit hence the taper trimming of the cut )The only downside I have is a slight exhaust oil leak between the silicone deflector and the heater hose as it cant be clamped, but that runs down to the bottom of the fuse anyway. And the exhaust oil tends to run off the end of the heater hose at the exit point and runs down the belly of the fuse, so to get around this problem I cut a tiny tapered arrow of clear plastic and stuck it to the heater hose so that the oil runs down off this taper of plastic and drips straight down rather than running down the belly of the fuse. Sorry I dont have a camera for pics to show you but you should get the idea.
