View Full Version : Bcpp + Gy401?

So I have a blade cp pro, and I can hover tail in no problem, but with the rate gyro, I find it hard to see what the tail is doing when hovering in other orientations (side/nose in) in order to correct for it. I've crashed once because of this already, and trying to learn something new with your heart in your throat I find it prohibitive.

That being said, I know I'm going to stick it out, and I'm already saving up for a Trex 450 to go to next. Rather than get a cheap gyro (G90), I'd prefer to just cut to the chase, and get myself a 401. My question is this: Will this gyro work with an otherwise completely stock BCPP? From what I've read it's probably a touch heavy for a 300 size heli, but will this largely affect flight performance considering I'm only hovering, and will probably only get to forward flight before upgrading?

What about the tail motor? Opinions I've read elsewhere on this seem somewhat conflicted. Obviously a faster tail would be better, but what if I leave it stock? Will the gyro work? Can the "hunting" not be adjusted out? Will this gyro even work with a fixed pitch tail rotor? Or do you all just suggest that if I really want a gyro, I should just get the G90?

Last question is, what's the difference between the GY401, and GY240? The 240 is a touch lighter, would I be better off with that?

for a heli with a tail motor, the 401 is overkill. the limit pot will be useless, as will the digi servo funtion. the good news is that you'll have a 401 on hand for future projects, but you won't be able to use it to it's potential. the 240 has no limiting or digi servo function so that might work better for you.

The point of getting the 401 would be as a temporary help for the learning curve with this heli, and ultimately for a 450 sized heli later. I get that it's overkill for the bcpp. I guess what I'm asking is... Will it work?

sure, it will work. and if your getting a new gyro for future use in future helis, then the 401 is the way to go. if you plan on leaving this gyro in the blade, only then could i suggest getting the 240.

Yeah, if it was just for the cp, I'd probably just get the G90, but since I plan on getting a trex, I thought why not get the gyro now, and help me along my learning curve a little.

Thanks for the input, it's appreciated.
