OK. I think I have everything except an ESC/BEC. I had a CC 85HV, but sold it because of the negative things I've read about it. It sounds like the Kontronik Jazz line is very popular and now they're coming out with the Jive line. I've also been looking at the Jeti Spin and Hyperion Titan line as less expensive alternatives. The Hyperion PSW model looks good and is nearly half the price of the Kontronik. It does look like they are hard to find, though.
I'm only going to run 6S. An internal BEC would be a nice feature, but not an absolute requirement. I know passions run high on equipment choices, but this one has been a tough one for me. I would appreciate any feedback on these, especially from anyone that has experience with more than one of these models. If someone drooling over the Jive line wants to get rid of one of there Jazz' I'm listening. Probably can't wait until the Jive's are available, though.
Thanks.

You've tried them all , look very convinced IMO ?
The Hyperion Titan 80A with the Switch Mode BEC 4A looks like a good alternative on paper.

I would also buy a kontronic because over here it's receiving positive feedback only, but the ESC is very expensive compared to others.....
No one tried something else apart from the CC's that seem to fail in all areas?

I have had no problems with the most recent version of the CC 85HV in my 8S 600 which uses similar drive components as the 500. I am still trying the ESC of the month in my 10S 600. Being in the US the price is cheap, works well, and if for some reason it needs to be serviced, Kansas is just a few states away.
Pros:
runs cool
gov works great
inexpensive
Cons:
Have lost controller boards on earlier versions due to static, which is not a known issue with the 500. You may want to rub the belt with a #2 pencil and install a #3046 anti-static tail pully.

If you just want 6S then consider the CC 80 which doesn't seem to attract the bad press the HV85 does - I've used one on my T600 for 6 months with no issues - I agree the Jazz is the Dog's Danglies but at a price !

I like the idea of a CC 80. There much cheaper than the 85HV. Would need an external BEC (Western Robotics 5A?) with either one so it makes sense.
Thanks.

The govenor on the Jeti spin is not in the same league as the Kontronic. The jeti with prog box is a nice tool but it wouldnt be my first choice. I havent tried the latest round of Hyperion offerings, the earlier ones worked but were really no better than any hord of no name esc's. These current versions do look interesting and i will have to try one down the track.
At the end of the day for what it costs me to get a big heli into the air i figure the esc cost for a K is worth it.

I have used a number of the hyperions and they are definitely over-rated on current capacity IMHO. I ran a 80A opto in my very big (64" wingspan) chipmunk and with peaks of only 75ish amps (on 5S) the sc got disturbingly hot. (melted the heat-shrink!)
Get a Kontronik for the heli, install it, set it to mode 4, and never think about it again (unless you are abusing it). The new jive series look awesome on paper also. Let's hope they are at least somewhat reasonably priced when they come out...

Does anyone know whether the static issues also affect the CC85s that are opto-isolated?

Yes, be sure to use anti-static measures. The PU belt on the 600 needs either #2 pencil rubbed on the outside or Graphit 33.
I have been able to run a neoprene belt with no treatment. Unfortunately there is no source for a neoprene 730XL.
Lately I have installed the 3046 anti-static pully and have applied Graphit 33 to be extra safe.

I thought I had deleted this post before anyone saw it and responded. Guess I was wrong. Sorry BruceW.
The question was on the internal BEC for the Kontronik 80-6-18. Would it be able to handle BLS451's on the cylic and a DS760/BLS251 on the tail? I had posed the question because of a misunderstanding with an order from readyheli on a Western Robotics BEC. It turns out I did get one of these. That's why I had deleted the post. I didn't want to say something negative about readyheli when it was just a misunderstanding.
Thanks for the link to GrandRC. I've seen them there. It's just that they're 50% more than readyheli's price. Anyway, I've got one on the way now from readyheli.

I ran the internal BEC (5V) on the Jazz 80 with BLS451/DS760/BLS251 for a while and it worked great. The BEC is rated at 4A and it seems like the BLS451 take much less current than the JR8717s so you should be good. Since then I've switched to the CC BEC and programmed it to get 6V (5.2V out of the package). So far there doesn't seem to be much difference from 5V but cyclic is just a bit faster. I had trouble with the WR 5A BEC because I run a PCM radio setup.
You can get the WR 5A BEC at GrandRC.

Do you use it in governor mode? If yes, what throttle do you have?
I have bought one and I want to use it on a Mini Titan with 3S A123. Thanks a lot!
