OK fellas...I'm a little worried about my radio. I took the back radio casing off to adjust my gimble tension today and was looking at where I could put an ON/OFF led. Powered the radio up to check volttage on a couple connections as stated here http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=49174 in post 5 step 21.
Didn't even get my voltmeter out when I hear the trim moving. Turned it over to look at what was up and come to find my rudder trim moveing all the way to the left position. I can move it back to center but it moves all the way left again regardless of where I set it.
I'M FREAKIN OUT HERE!!! Damn...and my 500 is on it's way too. SH**!!!

You probably need to send it to Horizon. They have fast turn around.

Does it still do it when you have the case back together? If not, I'd say you crossed some wires some place while the case was open.
If it still does it. Another thing you could try is this. MAKE SURE THE TX IS OFF before proceeding. Unplug the battery for a minute and then plug it back in. I doubt the TX does but, some electronics still pull a little juice from the battery even if it is "off". This may reset it or get rid of the glitch you are seeing. No guarantee this will work though.
Also, when you had it upside down did you have it resting on something where the switch got pushed in(damaging it) and it not thinks you are giving rudder trim all the time? Take a close look at the switch to see if you can see anything. Do the clicks (both directions) sound the same as the other trim switches? I'm not talking the beep the TX makes but, the clicks the switch makes. Is the switch loose? Check for any broken or pinched wires on the inside that may have gotten damaged when you had it open.
You can always call Horizon for things to look for as well.

Yeah, I've tried everything I can think of to no avail. :arggg: I even found out how to get into the service menu to try something there. About the only thing you can do there is adjust your gimble center and throws. Looks a call to Horizon is in order first thing Monday morning. Anyone know of the timeframe they will have it in order to repair it?

I don't know if this is true for all items. When I send my AR7000 in to have the attenna replaced, the turn around time was max of 7 days once they recieved it. Meaning, they could have it up to 7 days. I got it back within 7 days but, I live in a State that borders IL.
When you call. Ask them.
Sorry to hear that you can't get it fixed without sending it in.

Sounds like some static electricity fried it. I've seen it happen to other controllers, never a DX-7 though. But since you were touching the insides, I wouldn't doubt it.

Yeah, I thought of this too... I'm not too sure that this is the case though as I'm in a very wet climate here in HI. My hobby shop is a storage area off of my garage and I've never had any issues with static thus far. I'm pretty consious about ESD as it is required knowledge with my job. I'm not going to discount it though, sh** happens and if I didn't have bad luck, I'd have none.
We'll soon find out though! I sent it off to Horizon on Monday.

Hopefully they'll tell you the cause so you can pass the word back to us. Chances are they're gonna discount it as a generic broken click switch and won't investigate to thoroughly into the cause.
This will give you some time to pace yourself in the heli build though

If you're interested in knowing...
Well, got the radio back today. It took two weeks but I'm in Hawaii so I guess I kinda expected that. The Spektrum tech wrote that the encoder card was replaced and everything then checked out fine. So...it's all good!
THANKS HORIZON! :noteworthy
Musta been some ESD the sapped the board. Guess I'll bring home an ESD wrist strap from work and hook it to the circuit breaker ground above my hobby bench.

Glad they got it fixed for you! Interesting that it was in fact ESD in your environment. I guess it goes to show you can ever be too sure ;)
Now I suspect you have your 500 built by now? And I'm assuming you took all the necessary precautions in that the receiver won't brown out.

Yeah, I always take ESD precautions when working with components by making sure I'm grounded to something, taking off jewelry, etc. But this time it got me. :arggg: Oh well, at least it's fixed.
I'm still waiting on parts for the 500. I'm looking for a DS760 and trying to find a V1.6 AR7000. Otherwise, it's set up and ready for the other parts. I can't wait.
