View Full Version : Tail Swinging....

I'm forgetting how to correct this issue. When I apply full positive pitch the nose swings left, when I apply negative it goes right.

I'm in the process of setting up my new Hitec HG-5000 gyro with combo Hitec servo. In rate mode it doesn't drift, so my mechanics are setup properly. The nose goes left when I give left rudder, so my rudder direction is correct.

Gain works as follows:

TX in Standard gyro mode:
TX gain 0-50% = 100-0% Rate Mode

TX gain 50-100% = 0-100% Tail Lock mode

I tried gains in Tail Lock mode from 65-80%, didn't experience any wag.
Tail belt tension is good, tight enough but not too tight to cause drag on the gearing.
No sub-trim, no trim, no Revo mixing. Headspeed of 3300rpm.

My EPA in my Futaba 9C are at 100%, all trims (sub and regular) are at zero, "Rotate Rate" on the gyro is on the 3rd led from the "-" side, no Expo or Dual Rates.

I put on a new servo wheel with the ball out farther and am getting more pitch slider travel then previously. I reset the Servo Limit accordingly.

On full pitch climb outs the nose swings right about 45* or so, this occured with gain settings from 60% - 80% with no apparent change.

I'm not sure what to try next to get this tail to lock-in better.
