So for a beginner / mild flying, is the 401 / S9254 adequate for this size machine, or would the DS 760 be better? Isn't the DS 760 a new item, has it really passed the test of time? Is it easy to program the DS 760? Which servo for the DS 760?

What you listed certainly will be fine and is a good combo so not to worry there. The new Spartan DS760 is indeed a real treat, I have a few now and even with limited flight times on the machines they are in I really like the feel of them. They are however pricey and of course you still have to buy your servo to accompany it.

As you state your level currently I do not feel you would benifit from the Spartan however. If you just want to have the best or bear to than consider it, but if I told you the Spartan would make you a better pilot in any way when learning I would be lying to you.

If you do get a Spatan though good tr servos are Futaba BL251, 9256, Logitech 6100, 8900JR and a few others.

Be well and welcome to the Mikado machine, you will really enjoy it.

Two quick comments:

On the SpartanRC ds760 review thread (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=47240), in post #276 (http://www.helifreak.com/showpost.php?p=523052&postcount=276), Angelos of Spartan R/C basically states that the S9254 should work about the same as the S9256 if you want to save about $10.

Also, yes, it's easy to program. Just watch the videos on that same thread. Easier than any of the others IMHO.

I have a GY401 and 9254 on my Logo 10 and I can tell you that for my level of flying it works perfectly and will serve you well for years.
