Replacing the liner in my clutch, with a TT 90 liner for the first time. Question ? Do you trim the liner width ? It hangs down about an 1/8th inch below the bell, and dose the blue marbled side out ?
Thanks guys !

Definately trim to fit inside the bell, You don't want or need it hangine out. Not certain about the 'blue marbled' comment, one surface should have a rougher texture than the other, the rougher side goes towards the bell.

I had about 20gal thought this clutch (the one that came with the kit !) and it was working fine, until I had a real bad hot start, and smoked it !:smokin:

i was wondering because ive heard of ppl having to replace them after 3-4 gal. i pulled mine apart at 3 gal and it still looks almost new.

mine didn't last a gallon before i had to replace it. it was actually slipping during flight one, but since i was doing shake down flights i left it as is.

Mine slipped before I got through half a gallon.

I switched to the R90 liner, haven't tried it yet.

What I did was glue mine in and then trim it flush with the edge of the bell.

One tip, be REAL careful to not get any epoxy everywhere. If you do wipe it up before it dries... I sorta did and I could not turn the motor over without spinning the rotor head because the clutch was dragging. I ended up doing a lot of work with the x-acto to remove some excess epoxy so that the bell could actually turn freely with the engine off.

also, but some vaseline on the top of the clutch shoe's, that'll keep the epoxy from gluing the clutch bell to the shoes

I guess you like a slipping clutch?

I said the TOP of the clutch shoe's, not the clutch shoe SURFACE. and it just needs to be a VERY thin layer, just enough to keep whatever epoxy seeps out from the liner to the top of the clutch bell from sticking to the clutch shoe. been doing it this way for awhile, and dont have a problem. its better than spending 2 hours trying to get a clutch bell loose from the shoe b/c the bell got glued to the shoe.

Hi,

I buy the cheap packs of epoxy brushes from Harbor Freight. This allows you to put a nice coat of epoxy on the bell without overdoing it. I replaced my stock liner w/ a R90 before I even flew it, based on several recommendations. I hear the new clutch is slight larger in diameter so this is not needed.

I did pull my clutch out after about one gallon of fuel, just to check it. It's PERFECT! I also have a spare clutch bell and another R90 liner that I'm going to install as a spare.

You'll definitely want to cut the liner to size and width before gluing. That is what surprised me a little as the threads I read didn't say that it needed to be cut to width. It wasn't a tough chore, I just used a metal ruler and a sharp exacto knife.

This was the first nitro I had ever worked on and I gotta say, though intimidating at first, it really wasn't that bad.
