I am just finishing up the build and I have been practicing on a simulator. My question is should I learn to fly with a head speed governor or not. I have been talking to a few people that don't use them

I consider myself a beginner because I learn something new everyday.
So I would recommend a couple of things that really aided me.
First check out "raptortechnique". Mike Prewitt has a excellent web site about Raptors.
Second, as to govenors, I, as well as others, would recommend holding off on the gov.
until your engine is broken in and you have become familier with throttle and pitch curves.
Relative to your " learning curve ".
Once you are comfortable with the heli and have a reliable engine.
Then by all means try a gov.
I followed Mr. Prewitt's advice and held off on the gov. until I had a pretty good understanding of throttle and pitch curves and was sure my OS 50 was performing properly.
I recently installed a "Multigov" on a Raptor 50 and 90 and am quite pleased with the product and support. :)
Those you have talked to know this.
With a " properly broken-in and tuned " engine, correct throttle and pitch curves.
A govenor is not an " absolute necessity ". IMO
But they sure are neat.
Hope this is of some small help

I agree with Lamar Cooley on holding off on getting the governor. One reason is you need to learn how to set up your throttle/pitch curves and learn how the heli feals this way so in the event the governor fails while in flight, you can and know how to save the heli.

The even bigger reason was touched on above. If you run a gov before your engine is broken in and tuned properly, the governor will "correct" for improper tuning. If your initial tuning is overlean and you run a governor, you'll probably cook your engine before you notice it.
