I'm getting a R60 rtf from a friend of mine that is a raptor freak (has 5 or 6 I think). Its had about 1 gal of 20% run through and I was want to know openions.
R60v2 with tt70 and tt pipe torqe drive on tail. I will later be putting the 60 to 90 kit on and putting a os 91szh.

With the tt70 would there be any benafit to useing 30% or should I stay with 20%.
Also on the 70. gov or no gov? I do fly 3d be it varry ugly but 3d.

This is my first nitro heli. Any advice to nitro will help. I have flown electrics for 3 years now and want more flight time. Got 2 bcx, 1x400, 1 rex 450, 2 ms hornets, and 1 rex 600e. Have owned and sold many more. my nitro knowlage is limited to old cox .049 and fox .25 engines back when I was in high school.
Got my pump, fuel bottle fittings, glow igniter and starter. so I think I got the feild gear needed.

Yes I think you have the field gear covered.

Gov or no gov? For starting (I know your an experienced pilot but starting with new heli) I would not use a governor. This way you set up the throttle /pitch curves and learn to fly / feal the heli so in the event the governor fails. An electric heli (I have a T-rex 450) is governed so the nitro will feel alot diferent to you and you need to learn the diference to be safe.

20% 30%. I do not use the engine / pipe combo you have but if it is running fine and the engine is tuned for 20%, stick with it. One of the hardest things on a nitro heli is getting the engine tuned just right. By switching to 30%, or even name brands, will force you to retune the engine.

Good luck

Thank you. I will wait for a gov till I have beat the 70 around awhile and get ready for an os 91.

I'm putting the YS long stoke in mine.

Its here Its here. Now just need to finish setup and get a gallon of 20%.

Congrats and enjoy, I hope you've been on the sim during your wait.

Pics of my new paint. Just waiting for my new x9303 to get here. No point in programming the dx7 just to redo on mon.

Nice paint job. Let me know how well the corbon landing gear holds up and if you like it. The stock struts on the 90 looks like it will hold the body clip really well, I just wish they were black.

So far I like them, they do hold the clip. They are vary strong and just a little bouncy. Seems as they will take as much as the plastic ones. If you don't break skids much then worth it. Avoid sliding autos and other things that will grind the cf. The big thing I'm working on is some a123 bats for my rx pack. 2s4p 1100 cells to get 4400mah and put a reg on. Damn digis take so much power. Probably use a 6v sys as I plan on putting 8717s on cyclic. Currently Its got a collection of hitec digis but I want matched. Oh and dump the stock paddles for the ultra lites. I dont see a reason to put carbon ones on when the tt ultra lites work so good. I used them on my rex 600 and love them.

I'm using the Scott Grey regulator and a 3000mah duralite battery using there new chemistry. Per there techies this battery will let me fly almost all day on one charge. I'll have to get back to you how many flights I actualy get.

By my calc I will get the same on the a123. might only do a 2200 as the charge time is only 15 min

You could do a 2s2P on the A123's and get a 4600 mah battery. I am using a 5.4 volt reg with 2000mah lipo cylindrical cells in 2s2p. I don't think it will hurt anything desinged for 4.8 since a fresh nimh or nicad pack is 5.4. I have been using this set up for a few years. Same cell size as Framco but cells only cost me $5.00 each. I can fly all day with this 4000 mah pack and it cost me about $25 to build myself.

I have aa size 1100 out of vpx packs. where do you get your a123 cells.

Finaly got free time and good weather at the same time. Got her out and once I remembered to open the cut off clip :arggg: was running in seconds. She started a bit fat, came from texas so slight climate change going to oregon, but I soon had ir running great. Given the time of year I am still about 2 or 3 clicks fat. I'm going to keep it fat for a tank or 2 more as its bearly had a gallon so far and I want to makes sure the breaking is well done. I'm ready to put my radix on (using woods for first test) and get her out in a nice open field. I got a true strait curve in norm, 100 56 100 in idle 1 and 100 65 100 in idle 2. Its a tt 70 im running 690 radix and a jr x9303 radio. If any one has some ides for tuning the curve more in a 7 point curve I would like the imput. I got the starting curves of raptor technique. My t hold is is just above normal idle by 1.5% I'm setting up the t delay to slow the jump on bail out.

I have the 9303 (great radio) and used to use the 7 points on throttle and pitch to make a slight flat spot at hover so slight inputs due to giving rudder adjustments would not change the altitude (fingers don't move the stick exactly 90 degrees from throttle/pitch when rudder is aplied) it was like putting expo on the pitch. At a recent fly-in I asked a MA sponsored pilot to take a look at my heli and he switched me to pure linear pitch in all flight modes. I used to hover at half stick, now at 3/4 and it took a bit to get used to not having that dead spot at hover but it is more responsive and no longer changes altitude when switching flight modes.
The throttle delay I have set in my radio for autorotation bail out is "stick auto" inhibited "Hold delay 0.5s

Thanx. I was thinking a sorta u shaped curve will be better.

vandelescrow
02-24-2008, 07:04 PM
sorry, I was describing the throttle pitch for normal flight mode. Yes for idle up 1 and 2 you will want a "U" or "V" on the throttle, but idle up 2 make the center of the curve higher. The pitch will still be the same as described. normal mode apx -4 to +11 or 12, idle up 1 and 2 -11 to +11 or -12 +12 depending on what you are able to achieve then auto -4 to +as much as you can get.

I set my delay at .5 and Im working out my slight uing on my curve. set idle 1 t to 100 79.5 66 56 66 79.5 100 and idle 2 100 83.5 73 65 73 83.5 100. whatcha guys think?

Sounds a bit hight to me, but I´m not familiar with 60 engines.

I tried posting this last night but I think the server went down.

No matter how hard you try, no two heli's are the same. All you can do with the throttle curve is fly it and see if it over speeds or boggs at a certain pitch and adjust from there. I'm constantly tweeking my settings as I learn more.

The base v came from raptor technique. I just added the mid points. Its a tt70 in it

Ok this is a sucky report but my raptor was stolen. Some *#*#*#*#*#*# broke into my gorage and stole it and my cg tiger2 plane. arrrrrgggggg :bomb::BSS The only good points to this is my new radix 690's where not on it and I found a replacement for 750, oh and I have renters insureance. If I catch the #*#*#*# I'll beat'm to death with the woodies that are on it. Now all my good gear stays inside the house.

Update: I got my replacement r60 for $700 just gota put a good gyro on it. Will get a 770 with 8900g. I have torn the thing down to the bits and started the rebuild. Its got an os 60 thats basically new. The guy had no clue what he was doing when he set it up and couldn't get it off the ground. I will do a break in on the os. I did need to put new clutch in as it seems he hot throttled it and it eat the clutch liner. I also gota put proper servo horns on it as he put the small futaba servo horns on.
As far as the investigation they have some great leads and it possible they guy is still sitting on my old rapy. It might have ben one of the maintenance guys as some other non force break ins have happened here pointing to some one with master keys.
